    Hello,

I can’t solve a problem with the css formatting of the menu snippet. I’d like to format the ul-li-list as a top-navigation in one row. In FF everything looks fine, but in IE (6.0, SP2) the links are one beyond the other, in one column.

    You can see it at
    http://www.karate-kata.de/index.php?id=11

    the style sheet is at
    http://www.karate-kata.de/assets/site/karatekunst-variabel.css

The site should have been gone live today, but with that IE problem I have to wait. Maybe someone of you gifted css talents could help me out?

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

    Kind regards,
    Frisco

      Hi,

I could focus the problem a bit, but I’m still unable to solve it.

The problem is all about the charset, you can try and just switch in in the menu of IE to Western Europe (iso-8859-1), and everything looks fine.

Because of the menalto gallery I use at http://www.karate-kata.de/index.php?id=7 I have to put UTF-8 in the admin section (settings), otherwise the gallery does not work, as it uses utf-8. If I put iso-8859-1 there, IE displays the menu fine, but the gallery displays garbage (umlaute like ä are not displayed correctly).

So this are two different charsets, one HTTP (from modx admin section) and one HTML (meta http-equiv ...)

IE (6.0 SP2) seems to need HTTP(!) charset set to iso-8859-1, otherwise, with UTF-8, my CSS doesn’t build the menu correct. Isn’t this strange?

Can it be solved? How can I make my CSS work with IE and UTF-8?

        Hi,

I’ve got it, it was the IE quirks mode, which IE took because of wrong doctype-declaration or because of a line before the doctype.

In quirks mode, IE behaves like a very old browser, thus interpreting the box model wrong - which was exact my problem!

Now I can put my first modx-site life!

http://www.karatekunst.net (forwarding to karate-kata.de, but only ’til I moved the domain to my new provider)

        Feedback is VERY welcome!

        Kind regards,
        Frisco
