I have one folder (e.g. News) containing only documents of certain type (NewsEntry).
Is there a possibility to define what would be default Template for all newly created documents in that folder?
To make it more clear, is it possible to override "Default Template" sitewide settings on per-folder basis?

Have a look for the "Inherit Parent Template" plugin (which comes standard with 0.9.2.1 I believe). Don;t know if it’s in the repository but otherwise do a search in the forums.

No, I do not need children to inherit parent’s template. I have one template for parent and another template for its children.
By searching forum, I discovered this same question asked almost four months ago (http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/topic,4842.0.html) but without answers. So, I suppose this feature still does not exist.

I haven’t looked at the Inherit Parent Template plugin, but you could probably edit it pretty quickly to inherit the template from parent TV value, then you could have a TV in the parent folder to set what template should be used for children..

Where are the documents being created? Some of the front-end add-page solutions allow this to be set at the same time.
No, I don't know what OpenGeek's saying half the time either.

Could you please point me to some of such solution. I am aware of NewsPublisher and NewsManager.

I need solution that would enable user to publish news/articles using forms on public web. In ideal case, authors also would be able to edit and even delete their own articles, while just inspecting ones authored by others.

Have you actually tried NewsPublisher/Manager? I think those are the only two that will remotely get you there right now.
