I was wondering if anyone had considered creating a manager template for mobile users or slow net connections to include in the core installation? Might be a good idea if it hastn’t been considered yet.
For that matter I guess it might be good to create a mobile user template for the main site which matches the regular site template which is installed with the core. Just to help some with learning.
Mobile users and slow net connections are too different issues.
The major issue for mobile usage is the current use of frames, and therefore the template would need to be radically different.
A mobile-friendly manager is a great idea. This will be much easier with the next release. If it isn’t there already, I’m going to put it in the Wishlist for 1.0.
For slow net connections, a simple template could indeed be created to remove graphics. I would also suggest switching off the Preview and RTE usage if the speed is particularly slow.

"Aaaaaaaaaahhh... fully templatable manager... Ooooooooohhhh!!!"
Ah, I was resisting the urge to brag that my mobile’s internet access is faster than some people’s broadband... and used the wrong word. At least it made sense, whereas untightening frames is not anything like a disappearance. Good work on the rest of the "post-095, and definitely by 1.0" sentence though. This has to be the most low-key public announcement of an additional release *ever*.
Actually if I remember right, there’s a tiny bug in 0.9.2.1 that meant that it loaded a MODx 404 page in the background, which would probably account for some of the new peppiness.
Anyway, back on topic. Lets say I have six states:
1) I am using a proper computer connected to broadband via Ethernet.
2) I am using a laptop connected to broadband via Ethernet.
3) I am using the same laptop over Wi-Fi.
4) I am using the same laptop over a cellular connection that I pay for on a byte-usage basis.
5) I am using my PSP over Wi-Fi.
6) I am using my mobile phone over a cellular connection.
So clearly I’d benefit from a full-featured Manager, a simple Manager and two small-screen-friendly managers. Some of this could be automated with browser-recognition or possibly cookies, but the laptop will always use the same browser.
Thus, I need to select which Manager I use when I log in.
