In short, MODx has grown tremendously beyond even our most optimistic projections for traffic and users ... particularly with our international communities, and that’s where we need your help.
The MODx Team is looking to add a new person responsible for maintaining regular communication with the various International communities. Our initial need is to get the languages updated and tested for our (very very soon) 096 release, of which this person will play a critical role in bringing to fruition. A complete language translation "kit" means (in no particular order):
- main readme file from the installer folder
- main manager language file
- main manager country list
- ditto
- ajax search
- eform
- doc manager module
- quick edit
The languages that are not currently up to date in our internal Subversion repository include:
- Chinese (simplified)
- Danish
- English (british)
- French (two different encodings)
- German
- Italian
- Japanese
- Nederlands
- Norsk
- Persian (right-to-left)
- Polish
- Portugeuse (Brazillian and European)
- Russian (two different encodings)
- Spanish
- Svenska (two different encodings)
Please note that any right-to-left languages will likely need extra testing and troubleshooting. Persian is currently in place, but we’ve had other inquiries as well. This means that you’d likely need to work with other internal team members to update the supplied manager skins.
Why would you want to do this?
Other than clearing your conscience by giving back to MODx, you’ll also gain access to pre-release information and test builds. You get to see what the future has in store long before it makes its way to the general public (for example, we’ve been testing 097 internally for months!).

In all seriousness, we do need the help and you will get to play an important role for MODx.
What’s the ideal person?
We need someone
- organized,
- pleasantly persistent in tracking down translation updates,
- someone that will commit to testing languages and then committing them to our Subversion repository as they’re completed, and
- someone committed to sticking around for a while.
This means that you need to have at least cursory experience with SVN, the ability to pull a diff between a couple of versions of files to figure out what’s going on, and willing to help sort out and migrate languages to our future language structure. You’ll also be responsible for updating and adding to the
language section of the wiki (which makes it easy to see diffs between versions of the languages ... but we need more research on how to best make this a true multinational language translation tool..). In short, we need someone who’s a bit technically inclined, self-motivated, easy to work with and who will stick around and get things done!
Interested parties please
reply here send me a PM (doh!) ... or suggest someone you think would be ideal. But most of all, thanks for considering this in the first place!
