If you are at all conversant with XHTML and CSS it will be no problem. Just replace the menus with the DropMenu snippet, put the NewsListing snippet where you want the news summaries to appear, and style away. It’s all in the CSS!

        If you use this
        http://www.oswd.org/design/preview/id/2481

        - Replace ONLY one link in menu with [[DropMenu...]] (remove ul tag)
        - Replace all main content with [*content*]
        - Replace Member Login content with [!WebLogin? &tpl=`WebLoginSideBar`...!]
        - Replace High Standards with [[NewsListing? &startID=`....]]
        - Replace searchbox with [[FlexSearchForm?FSF_showResults=0]]

        Thats all laugh

          Well,

I don’t have to say a thing then. My word of wisdom for you is to give it a try. Dare you to take the first step in trying out MODx, and I’ll leave the rest to your decision. smiley

1a past your template in the "newtemplate"option in the sources menu
1b you can put your css on your server where ever you like, I have a folder in the root of my site called css, inthat folder i have my css and call it from my html template like this css/mycss.css.
Remeber that all pages are renderd if under root.

when you create an new document, snippet, template, plugin, module or chunk it will place that code into the database.

you will need to make a folder for you images as you would do normaly.

              Hope this helps you.

                3. The css part, is that called "Template variables" ?
                4. So new html file and css will not show up anywhere, only be in the mysql db?

                  3) just copy the css file to your server tru ftp as you would do normaly (there are other way’s but thats a bit more compplicated)

                  4) the html (Template) is indeed only in the database but css wil be at that place on your server where you transfered it to using ftp, same as you would do with images.

                  Hope this helps

Log in to the Manager. Go to Manage Resources. Choose the Templates tab. Give your template a name, and copy/paste the XHTML into the textarea. Clean out the existing content and put in MODx chunk, snippet, or TV tags for the content as mentioned above.

You have two options for CSS files:

                    1. Create a document of type text/css. Set it to NOT use the rich text editor. Copy/paste the .css file into the document content. In this case, it will be stored in the database along with all the other documents, snippets, chunks and TVs. Since it’s handled as a document by the MODx engine, you can use MODx tags such as snippets or chunks to dynamically generate the final css content.

                    2. Store a standard .css file on the webserver somewhere. Originally they were kept in assets/site. I keep mine in an assets/templates/TemplateName/style folder.

Now, in your new template, adjust the links to the css file. If using a document, make it [~xx~] where xx is the ID of the css document you made. If it’s a file, it will be the path to the .css file as usual.

You can either make your new template the default in the System Configuration, or assign it to each page as you create them.

TVs are simply more content that you can place wherever you want on a document, just the same as the [*content*] tag. It’s a lot more flexible, but in the end it still just outputs content where you want it, whether that content is text, a form, or whatever.

Sorry to say, but it’s not very easy to take the step from standalone editors (nvu /frontpage).
I upload css... but I can’t see it in any resource handeling window. Is it supposed to be final when uploaded?
                      ---------
The difficoult part is to understand
_where files should be uploaded to apper in boxes and
_how to connect html with css and last

U know... when I brows my MODx all is nice, clean and "empty". No brows-boxes to search files etc.
When not native to eng. the modules are hard to understand. Switching to my nation lang. gives me words I have never seen on web before (=less help).
                      Very basic how-to’s would help.
                      # howto get started with a new template.

When the html in FCKedit is saved this comes up:

Warning: fopen(../assets/cache//siteCache.idx.php): failed to open stream: Permission denied in /home/morgano/public_html/manager/processors/cache_sync.class.processor.php on line 188
                      Cannot open file (../assets/cache//siteCache.idx.php)
                      ----------
Wooops... I took them away... I was supposed to empty cache to see new page, wasn’t I?
