ok, folks this is my first attempt at a pure CSS layout.
Use javascript (nifty) for the corners and has a few nifty things that I picked up from webmedic and susan! Thanks you two! cool

so definitely I dedicate this template layout to: webmedic, susan and ryan and the various other reasources.

This template is going to be used for my company in Japan. But I thought I’d still share the wealth.

    Includes:
    readme
tiff image (to get the idea)
    sql data files for phpmyadmin
simple install instructions (warning not that helpful tongue)
to some extent also source ordered (outside of the top menu)

edit::: comments and suggestions are definitely welcome and wanted!

(errr, wanted to post an image here but ... don’t have any hosted on the net yet. undecided)

Very nice! I’ll scarf this one up, if you’re so kind as to make it available! Thank you!

huh? isn’t the abc.zip there in the attachments area on the first post?

Yes, please scarf it up. It’s just a small way to give back to the community at the moment. smiley

I wonder if anybody will notice what I did with the search box .... hehehe

Sorry, worded badly...should have said "since you are so kind..."! Playing with it now. Little tweaks here and there; I already had ListMenuX installed, and having it installed twice made my whole dev site barf! I like it. I’ll post a link for you when I’ve got it visible publicly wink

I give up; what did you do with the search snippet? It’s laid out nicely.

Outsmarted myself; used a text editor to search/replace all instances of modx with the table prefix of my dev database...and it also replaced all the $modx class function calls. <sigh> two steps forward, 1.9 steps back rolleyes

oops, sorry about the replacement problem.

As for the search thingy, I have the results show up in the same box instead of being outside of it like it is done in the default layout. Also, the search box is now all CSS instead of being a table.

what kind of tweeks have you made?
I really wanted to have the javascript drop downs show up under the black bar at the top with only the main top level links showing in the black bar with secondary level links showing vertically in the yellow space between the black and white content box.

Just have gotten around to playing with the new listmenuX snippet.

hmmm, we really need to come up with a way to deal with similar or same snippets/chuncks/TVs because this is going to be a serious problem later.

I was also hoping that by offering my sql data that it might be some kind of motivation for an installer type of thing. No hassles of copying and pasting but rather one click fun smiley

Did Anybody notice the grey box inside the content area? I pulled down out the information for the introtext. I had thought it might be an easy way to put a non-used resource back to work. hmmm, really would love to have the ability to have several of these fields would definitely liven up information display!

Don’t worry about the word usage I took it the way you had intended.

For styled list menus, you can’t beat these three articles on A List Apart:

              http://www.alistapart.com/articles/taminglists - list styling basics

              http://www.alistapart.com/articles/dropdowns - basic dropdowns

              http://www.alistapart.com/articles/hybrid - a really nice variation

They have a couple of other nice articles on drop-down menus (as well as a number of other web design articles), but those three will pretty much get you through anything you might want to do. And, reading the accompanying comments are often well worth it for the suggestions, fixes, and links they offer.

For snippets that are in common use but I’ve modded for my own purposes, I’m working on using a consistant naming scheme.

For example, snippets that I’m modding to use variables taken from a language file instead of hard-coded text will have the -m suffix added to the name (SearchForm-m, WebLogin-m), and add a few lines to the top of the code explaining the changes, and if appropriate, add a comment to the code where the change is.

This way, people can have an idea of what to expect in the way of known behaviour, as well as changed behavior. For example, to use one of the multilanguage-enabled snippets, you must have at least one language file for it, and you have to have as many language files as you have language homepages/folders, each named appropriately.

hehe, looks like we’re on the same page but not the right sentence.

I was wondering if you made any changes to the layout or something like that.

Love to see what you’re doing with the mulit-language stuff. My company is based in Japan so that means English is useless to me.
