Just an update on the Devkit in Dreamweaver 8.

Was getting an error pop after loading the extention.

Here is a screenshot of the error pop-up

Was getting an error pop any time I change the location of the cursor.
    Examples:
from one layer element to another.
Any fields in the properties area.
Running any command from the pulldown menus.

Here is the fix that will get rid of about half the error pop-ups:
Click on the "view" pulldown menu and make sure "NoScript content" is unchecked. Dreamweaver 8 has this automatically set to On when creating a HTML file.

If there is any info I can provide to help the author of this extension debug it for DW8.
    Please contact me.

I’ll try and play with this as soon as I can and see if I can fix some of the errors and such. Been pretty busy lately...but I think I can squeeze in a little time to update the extension. smiley

What version of Dreamweaver are you running and on what operating system? I just updated my Windows version of Dreamweaver to v8.0.2 and don’t have any problems. Does the error happen after you uninstall the extension? Also, what other extensions do you have loaded? Dreamweaver can be quite picky when it comes to how the javascript is written in extensions. I tried to be as explicit as possible with all variables used in the extensions so there wouldn’t be any chances of conflicts with other extensions. However, that’s not to say that another extension wouldn’t still cause problems. A poorly written extension can cause quite a few problems in Dreamweaver...especially ones that are a pain to isolate and debug. wink

I’ve updated the extension a bit. Read the first post for details. Also, like it says in the first post, if you have any ideas or suggestions on what you’d like to see in this extension please let me know! smiley

Can someone recommend a good, free / opensource editor which is more or less in league with Dreamweaver? I mainly code in PHP, CSS, PERL, XML, HTML and like the MySQL / ODBC connections, as well as the FTP capabilities, or at least the fact that I can upload a site and even sync it (get what’s newer on the server, and put what’s newer to the server)

I don’t quite use all the functions included in Dreamweaver, and I can’t afford it at this stage. I tried many different programs, of which this one seems to be the best so far.

Sorry for the OT, but I thought that maybe I could get some nice recommendations?

As far as something similar to Dreamweaver, there’s Nvu (http://www.nvu.com). However, it doesn’t have the PHP or database capabilities that Dreamweaver has. But for a strict PHP coding tool, I’ve been using the PHPEclipse plugin (http://www.phpeclise.de) for Eclipse (http://www.eclipse.org). Works great for me and works across multiple platforms. smiley

The 103MB download is a bit rough for me at this stage. I have had a look @ exlipse before, but couldn’t really figure out exactly what it is, or how it works. Your other link, http://www.phpeclipse.de/tiki-read_article.php?articleId=37 see, valuable, and makes it more clear asto exactly what eclipse is, and how I could use it. Is there a smaller download, with like only the PHP + MySQL stuff, perhaps?

Eclipse is an extremely powerful development platform. It is written to be easily extensible (in that respect it is similar to Firefox). Originally developed by IBM for Java development, it was released as Open Source, and now has plugins for just about any language and purpose you can imagine. It even has a games plugin and a television watching plugin! It has all kinds of debugging support, the ability to select the editor of your choice (although that will limit your debugging options... if you use a built-in editor, clicking on an error will automatically take you to that line in your source code). It can connect to CVS or SVN repositories, and will let you organize your project like a real professional programmer. I’ve messed around with it enough to be impressed, but there is a learning curve to mastering all of its potential and I just haven’t taken the time to do it.
