    Hi Guys,

In a real pickle as to why one of my clients websites (in development still) is acting funky, meaning if you visit it here - http://wighthomecare.co.uk.predns.ourwindowsnetwork.com/ It says the page cannot be found!

Yet if you visit an internal page - http://wighthomecare.co.uk.predns.ourwindowsnetwork.com/personal-care.html your see it works fine as well as the other internal pages all with friendly urls! Its just i have no index page apparently?

Can anyone shed any light? It comnpletely put a hold on it at the moment.

    Thanks
    Brett

Simple. Your index page DOES exist. It is http://wighthomecare.co.uk.predns.ourwindowsnetwork.com/index.php, your server just isn’t set up for index.php as a home page. If you have access to the server, this is done via the IIS snap-in (assuming you are using IIS, which is what this forum is for...), right-click on the directory for the site, go to the documents tab and add index.php to the list.

        Hi Madmatt

Hmm I have helm control panel, but im confused, your saying its a server issue and not modx yet when i add index.php it loads the page so my server is processing the file, or do you mean its a setting in modx manager itself?

Sorry if im not being clear im just confused a little by your asnwer, but im glad it should be something simple!

Also when i turn off friendly urls the index.php then works fine and the server reconises it wihtout the extension as the home page.

        Anymore pointers?

        Thanks

Well I’m not sure what to tell you then if turning off Friendly URLs fixes it. What I was saying was the the server was not configured to allow index.php to be shown automatically (NOT a MODx issue), but if turning off the friendly URLs gets it shown, then something about your friendly URL set up has an issue I guess. I’ve not used that module (its on my list...), so I’m afraid I don’t know what to tell you, I’m sure someone else here will.

            Hi Matt,

I notice that I also need to type in index.php after /manager/ to get that site up, so something clearly to do with the index.php files.

Can anyone else shed some light, at this moment my clients site is unusable and im stuffed without a fix!!!!

            Anyone advice would be great!

            Thanks

I have created a work around by setting the error page as the home page so now when you visit the homepage its "still" not working and redirecting to the error page which is infact the homepage, is that ok with the rules etc?

Will it still be ok with google? To be honest i still need the fix long term...

I think you need to post your htaccess file here so we can actually see what’s going on...
