    Hi there,

I’ve recently made the jump from Evolution to Revolution, and I really like it so far.

Thing is, I’ve not been able to find a solution for Friendly URLs with Revolution on a Windows Server. I really need to get something sorted soon.

Has anybody figured this out, and would they be willing to shed some light on how it can be achieved?!

    Thanks

    Neil

        Yep, IIS 6 I believe.

I have Friendly URLs working on my personal site with Revolution, but thats on an Apache server.

At work, I’m forced to use IIS, and I can’t find a way get Friendly URLs working with Revolution.

        Help me please!!!

It’s got nothing to do with MODx, you need special extensions to IIS to emulate Apache’s URL rewriting.

            Hmmm....

Well, I’ve been using MODx for quite sometime now, and was using some rewriting software to sort out my Friendly URLs with Evolution.

Once I upgraded to Revolution, I presumed that The same software (and code) would simply work, however, it resulted in an error.

It seems that Friendly URLs work differently with Revolution. Just an observation.

            Thanks

If I recall correctly the htaccess code is the same as was found in earlier 0.9.6.x installs, so technically it should work. Do you have access to any error logs that might help?

I add an alias to each of my resources, and turn Friendly URLs on in the admin settings. Then when I hover over the links in the page, I can see that the alias is being applied to them, so all good so far. But when I click on any of them, it goes to the address it should do i.e. http://myserver.co.uk/myalias.html, but the screen is just blank, and I mean completely blank, no error at all. And thats using the exact same rewriting code (with ISAPI rewriting software) as I was using with Evolution.

Really could do with getting this sorted, as you can imagine!

                Thanks again

What ISAPI software are you using?

                    I’m using Helicon Tech ISAPI_Rewrite 3.

I’m currently using a script that looks like this: (as I mentioned, this worked with Evo)

                    # Helicon ISAPI_Rewrite configuration file
                    # Version 3.1.0.69

                    RewriteEngine On
                    RewriteCompatibility2 On
                    RepeatLimit 32
                    RewriteBase

                    # Block external access to the httpd.ini and httpd.parse.errors files
                    RewriteRule ^/httpd(?:\.ini|\.parse\.errors).*$ / [NC,F,O]
                    # Block external access to the Helper ISAPI Extension
                    RewriteRule ^.*\.isrwhlp$ / [NC,F,O]

                    RewriteRule ^/(?!(?:manager|assets)/)(.*)\.html(?:\?(.*))?$ /index.php?q=$1?2&$2: [NC,L,U]

And thats what my FURL settings are like in the Revo system settings.

If you can see where I’m going wrong, I’d be extremely happy! In fact, that would definitely be worth another MODx donation (and some beer money for you!)

                    Thanks

                    Neil

                      Give this a try:

                      # Helicon ISAPI_Rewrite configuration file
                      # Version 3.1.0.56

                      # Friendly URLs
                      #RewriteEngine On
                      #RewriteBase /

                      # Fix Apache internal dummy connections from breaking [(site_url)] cache
                      #RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} ^.*internal\ dummy\ connection.*$ [NC]
                      #RewriteRule .* - [F,L]

                      # Exclude /assets and /manager directories from rewrite rules
                      #RewriteRule ^(manager|assets) - [L]

                      # Redirect from mydomain.com/rootname to mydomain.com/rootname/
                      #RewriteRule ^ru$ ru/ [R=301,L]

                      # The Friendly URLs part
                      #RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
                      #RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
                      #RewriteRule ^ru/(.*)$ index.php?q=$1 [L,QSA]
                      #RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
                      #RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
                      #RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php?q=$1 [L,QSA]

                      RewriteEngine On
                      RewriteCompatibility2 On
                      RepeatLimit 32
                      RewriteBase

                      # Exclude /assets and /manager directories from rewrite rules
                      RewriteRule /(?:manager|assets).* $0 [I,L]

                      # Redirect from mydomain.com/rootname to mydomain.com/rootname/
                      #RewriteRule /ru http://www.domainname.ru/ru/ [I,RP]

                      # The Friendly URLs part
                      RewriteRule /ru/(?!(?:img|style.css|assets|manager))(.*) /index.php\?q=$1 [I,L]
                      RewriteRule /(?!(?:img|style.css|assets|manager))(.*) /index.php\?q=$1 [I,L]

Granted this is from an evo site with YAMS installed, but it should give you more progress or at least something...
