    I usually use a linux host with apache. But the client has renewed the contract with the current hosting, so i can’t switch it over.

    I have installed MODx, however, on the login screen i see this error:
    Error in my_thread_global_end(): 1 threads didn’t exit

    And when i try to login it fails. It redirects me to:
    http://URL.nl/modx/manager/Error%20in%20my_thread_global_end%28%29:%201%20threads%20didn%27t%20exit

    Only when i refresh the manager page, i get into the manager screen.
    The manager is totally messed up. No stylesheet is loaded. So i get a white page withe content. And this error when i try to save the settings.

    Warning: fopen(../assets/cache/siteCache.idx.php) [function.fopen]: failed to open stream: Permission denied in C:\Inetpub\vhosts\winzo.nl\httpdocs\modx\manager\processors\cache_sync.class.processor.php on line 228

    I never had this problem with linux servers...

      It sounds like the PHP process does not have permission to write to the cache folder and possibly others.

      If you contact your web host ask them to make sure that the NTFS Permissions

      IUSR_SiteName & IIS_WPG has Modify rights to everything under httpdocs

      As a test you could upload a test.php file to /assets/cache or your site root to test the permissions with the following code:

      <?php
      $myFile = "testFile.txt";
      $fh = fopen($myFile, ’w’) or die("can’t open file");
      $stringData = "Test Line 1\n";
      fwrite($fh, $stringData);
      $stringData = "Test Line 2\n";
      fwrite($fh, $stringData);
      fclose($fh);
      ?>

      When you access this page in your browser it should create the file for you, called testFile.txt in the folder you uploaded to.

      If it does not and says permission denied then your web host will need to fix the NTFS Permissions for your domain for PHP to have read / write access.

      Thanks

        ok, i have mailed the hosting.

        let’s assume they won’t/can’t/don’t know how to do this.
        Does it means i can’t use modx on this server?

          Hi,

          I don’t think it’s a case of MODx being the fault here, if you upload the example code you will most likely see the permission denied error message and thats just off a basic PHP file write script.

          So it will be in your web hosts interest to make sure PHP is configured correctly on their servers.

          Let us know how you get on.

            yea, i know modx isn’t the cause here.
            I have used modx for many sites. But my question was, what if the hosting can’t set these settings?

            Does i mean i can’t use modx on this server?

            But i have mailed the hosting with the problem. Hope they can fix this.

              Ah sorry I missed your main question, yes if they cannot fix PHP on this server / website then MODx would not function correctly.

              Fingers crossed, I am sure they will fix it for you smiley

                yeah, i’ve got the login details for Plesk. And so i can change the permissions myself.

                Only i "problem". In the manager it says that the config file is still writable.
                In plesk is says that IUSR_SITE and IWAM_plesk only have read rights.

                Can i ignore the warning?

                  If you can’t change the config file to be read-only with Plesk try this

                    i get a permission denied.
                    And that is logic, since the file itself is locked. But only MODx sees it as open, since it’s using CHMOD to check it...?

                    Also, you have a typo:
                    if($result)
                    you forgot a { after it.

                      How did you locked the file?

                      Maybe you should unlock it and try the chmod again

                      thx for the {
