Help... I am trying to setup Modx on my local machine. I have followed the instructions to download and unzip the files. When trying to run the index.php file in Internet explorer I can’t get any further than a dialogue box asking if I want to download the file!!!!!

If I accept download nothing happens. I have previously setup Modx successfully on a Windows XP laptop. However, I have recently installed Windows 7. Could this be my problem undecided?

I have also moved the folder to the root C:\VirtualSkillsAcademy\index.php but, it still wants to open the index file for download then nothing undecided.

    Your help is appreciated

    Best Kay

      Hi Kay,

I have split the original thread you posted to as the problems are slightly different.

On your Windows 7 computer have you installed PHP and MYSQL?

      Also are you running IIS?

      Thanks Aaron

        Hi Aaron,

        Thanks for your speedy response.

Yes I have PHP 5.3.1 installed and have IIS running.

Also should have mentioned I have MySQL 5.1 installed too.

Did you setup PHP / MySQL Manually it sounds like IIS has not been configured for the php extension.

If you are not too far into your new setup I would highly recommend you use the Microsoft Web Platform installer, it will install PHP, MySQL for you and also configure IIS for the correct settings with just a few clicks.

Hi, Not a Manual install. I allowed the typical install for PHP and MySQL, I’m not technical enough to go for manual, quite yet. Ok, will follow your instructions, but will it be ok to run this after the fact, with PHP already installed?

I assume you just downloaded php and mysql from the respective sites and just ran the installs?

If so the quickest way to get it fixed would be to go to add remove programs in control panel and uninstall them, then download the microsoft web platform installer and run that selecting PHP and MySQL to be installed.

The good thing about this tool is that it fully automates everything you need to do.

              Thanks

                Hi Aaron,

Yes I downloaded them individually and installed from their respective sites.

I am now in the process of installing MySQL from the Web Platform Installation, but I have two authentication options to choose from. (1) Windows Integrated Authentication. (2) Mixed Mode Authentication. Which would you advise to have installed?

Are you sure that is the MySQL Installer running and not MSSQL?

Sorry my mistake, I have been meaning to do a tutorial on this for some time.

You will need to install MySQL manually by downloading the install from the mysql website: http://www.mysql.com/

For the Web Platform Installer you need to have the following selected:

                      Under Web Server
                      - FastCGI for IIS

                      Under Framework and Runtimes
                      - PHP 5.2.12

                      Database
                      - You don’t need to select anything here

                      Thanks Aaron
