    Hello,
I just upgraded my website to 0.9.6.3 and even while upgrading the the process seemed a bit odd. Everything goes OK until the "end". End here meaning everything stops in a window showing all the components were OK or upgraded. Is there supposed to be a button like next or finished after that?

Anyway if I then try to access my website I get the following error
You are not authorized to view this page
Same goes for the manager page.

I then went on and checked the user rights on index.php. They were reset with no iusr_ ... access (I am on XP) I recreated such rights and now I get the following error
The website cannot display the page (with http 500 onternal error)
Does anyone have some good suggestions what to do?

It’s possible that you ran out of memory during the install. That would account for not seeing the final install screen(s). Check the memory limit in phpInfo().

Another possibility is a corrupted download.

      Hope this helps. smiley

        Hi BobRay,
I downloaded the install files again, this time I used the .tar package instead of Zip package. I tried to reinstall with PHP memory limit increased to 256M with exact same results. Any other suggestions? So far any upgrade that I have done has worked without any problems.

That’s definitely odd. Anything in the error logs?

The only thing I can think of is a couple of the usual suspects: file and folder permissions, and character encoding, though I’ve never seen either one abort the install with no message.

            Hi RobRay,
I am not a newbie to MODx but I am really starting to feel like one. I know all the necessary folders that need to have also write permissions, but do the other folders need read permission? Because I first got "you are not authorized to see this page" (or somethign along those lines) even for the index page. I then went on and gave index.php read permission to my iusr_... and then I started getting http error 500 for IE and the following error for firefox

PHP Warning: require_once(C:\Inetpub\modxtesti/manager/includes/protect.inc.php) [function.require-once]: failed to open stream: Permission denied in C:\Inetpub\modxtesti\index.php on line 52 PHP Fatal error: require_once() [function.require]: Failed opening required ’C:\Inetpub\modxtesti/manager/includes/protect.inc.php’ (include_path=’.;C:\php5\pear’) in C:\Inetpub\modxtesti\index.php on line 52

Funny thing is that in my PHP.ini the include_path was commented out. So I took the comments out but I still get the same error although now it is C:\php5\includes instead of php5\pear.

If your host is using suPHP or suExec, the folders need to be 755 and the files 644. I know the Revolution install will set them wrong in that circumstance and you can’t log into the manager (although the install completes). I haven’t installed 9.6.3 anywhere like that so maybe the install aborts.

Oops - I reread your post and see you are on XP, so probably this isn’t it. Are you using XAMPP? Permissions really shouldn’t matter much at all under Windows. I’ve never hit a permission problem with MODx/Windows/XAMPP even on Vista.
