This is a stupid question, but I want to make sure I do this setup correctly. I have never had to mess with Plesk or Windows IIS before this nightmare migration.

When I am changing permissions on the usual folders inside assets, like cache and export, I know I am performing this on the "Plesk IIS User (IUSR_accountname)" user. I also know I am checking allow-modify. However, am I checking any of the two check boxes at the top (allow inheritable permissions/replace permissions)?

Noob question, but I have had such a bad time with this move, I just want to make sure everything is done right from here on out.

      Hi,

You need to select Modify rights and on the advanced screen make sure you check reset perms on all child objects this is a little out dated but should show you the right perms to set:

      http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=14486.0;attach=5000

Once you set this theres no need to alter any perms on cache, assets etc IIS handles all the security for you and the only person / process which gets write access to the files is PHP.

Let me know if you get stuck

Just to make sure I am following, instead of changing the permissions on the separate folders/files, I just need to set permissions for this one particular user? If so, I need to figure out how to do this via Plesk.

        Thanks

By default plesk should be doing this for you, what are the default permissions of wwwroot ot htdocs when you create a brand new site in Plesk?

If you could provide a screenshot or details of each account and its perms i can check that you have the most secure settings.

I am doing a domain permission check right now. I’ll post back when it is complete.

              Hi Deniro0311

Did the permissions reset work for you?

              Thanks Aaron

                Hey Aaron,

Thanks for checking back in, I do appreciate it. My host actually moved from Plesk to DotNetPanel, which opened up a whole new set of issues. They also moved their mail to SmarterMail, which took a crap on all email functionality. However, after a lot of troubleshooting, everything is working nicely. I am actually warming up to DotNetPanel.

The original issue was permissions based, I just had to get them to change the perms for me.

                Thanks

Thanks for letting me know that’s good news it’s working now.

Smartermail is pretty neat especially if your host has the enterprise version you can do all sorts of syncs and even share mailboxes or Calendars similar to exchange.

I have my outlook synced with webmail, including calendar, contacts, tasks, and notes and that all syncs with my iPhone too smiley
