If you’ve got iisrewrite installed, yes, but we don’t. I have investigated iisrewrite with my web host but they’re asking us to sign something. If it mentions anything about posing a security threat to them, my boss will run in the other direction hence I need to know how to get IIs 6 running with 404 pages on the latest version of MODx.
Mostly harmless.

I don’t think you’ll ultimately have much luck with that trick hotdiggity ... I tried it a few times and it wound up causing other problems. I suspect others had the same issue, hence why it probably hasn’t been brought up all that much. I believe it had to do with reporting every page as a 404 to search engines and thus your site becomes effectively invisible to them.

OK thanks - won’t waste my time any further on the 404s then!
