    Hi

I’m hoping someone can help me here. I’ve searched in the forums and the only answer I found is of no use...

I’m using modx 0.9.6 in a Windows/Apache/MySQL/PHP environment. I was handed a half-completed project which I have now finished, but now I’m trying to assess the CMS capabilities of modx. However, I can’t get the File Manager to work. When I try to access it, I get this error:

    [tt] Directory listing for:/[/tt]
    [tt] Access denied![/tt]

In Tools -> Configuration -> File Manager I’ve set:

    • File Manager Path: [tt]C:\Program Files\Apache Group\Apache2\htdocs\webroot\[/tt]
In Security -> Manager Users -> User I’ve set:

    • File Manager Path: [tt]C:\Program Files\Apache Group\Apache2\htdocs\webroot\[/tt]
    • Resource path: [tt]C:\Program Files\Apache Group\Apache2\htdocs\webroot\assets\[/tt]
    • Resource URL: [tt]/assets/[/tt]

I’m sure these paths are correct, and the User has Administrative rights, but it won’t work. I’ve tried setting the properties of the relevant directories in Windows so they’re no longer Read Only (right click folder -> Properties -> uncheck Read Only -> Apply to subfolders/files), but this seems to be ignored - I’m thinking this is an Apache thing perhaps? I’m at a loss however. If anyone can help me it would be much appreciated!

    Cheers

Maybe you could try setting all those paths to add the /assets/ folder to the end; you really shouldn’t need to be doing anything with files in your web root or the /manager/ folder anyway.

Hmmm, gave that a try, but no luck.

In Tools -> Configuration -> File Manager, and in Security -> Manager Users -> User, for the File Manager Path setting, it states:
If you’re having problems using the file manager, make sure this path points to the root of your MODx installation.
...which would be [tt]C:\Program Files\Apache Group\Apache2\htdocs\webroot\[/tt] rather than [tt]C:\Program Files\Apache Group\Apache2\htdocs\webroot\assets\[/tt] so I wouldn’t have thought it would be the path being incorrect...? Anyway, I tried your suggestion and it still has the same error message unfortunately. Thanks though.

        Any other ideas?

If you’re using WAMP Server http://www.en.wampserver.com/
the settings should be something like:
          C:\wamp\www\yourfolder\assets

But there may be something in the WAMP setup that prevents you from accessing the resources on your home server.
Once uploaded to a web server it all works O.K.!

Sorry, perhaps a little confusing. I’m not using a WAMP server, I’m just using those components together (Windows, Apache, MySQL, PHP).

It’s all setup on my local windows machine on my Apache server. Everything’s running fine, it’s just the File Manager I can’t get working. I’ve managed to push the code to our in-house LAMP test server, and it all works fine there, which is strange and makes me think it’s either a Windows problem, or my config is different somewhere. Even so, now I’ve seen the File Manager working, I don’t think it’s going to be enough to cater for what I need. I need something that will allow people to upload lots of files as well as inserting/updating database records associated to these. I can’t find any plugin that will help me do this sort of thing, so I’ll have to write it myself. Doesn’t solve the original problem, but thanks for helping!

In my experience, rolling your own server components on Windows boxes is really hard to pull off successfully, and invariably XAMPP cures those woes! (moving this to the Windows/IIS forum)

I realize this topic is super old, but for what it’s worth, I encountered this same problem on a Windows host, and I solved it by changing all the backslashes to forward slashes.

I’ve got the same problem. I’m a student working on a department website at a university in Hawaii, and I can’t seem to migrate the files to WAMP’s www/ directory on my home computer.

I figured it would be a simple process.

Where are you changing these forward slashes?
