It looks to be that ISAPI_Rewrite now supports actual .htaccess files in directories.

This is exciting. I haven’t bought it yet, but I anticipate doing so in the next week or so.

Perhaps this means that IIS users won’t have to have different rewrite rules than apache users.

That’s a little misleading...only the full version supports .htaccess files. The freeware version does not but does support (a majority of) apache mod_rewrite syntax.

That is partially correct. The new free version supports Mod_Rewrite syntax, which is probably most important, but only at a global level.

The pro version, for $100, gets you the ability to set it up per-site, or with .htaccess files themselves.

If you want to go cheap though, you can just copy the .htaccess rules to your http.conf file.

I’ve purchased the pro version, but overall php woes have prevented me from trying it out. I’ll report back here when I get to actually try the default MODx .htaccess files.

I’m using IIS Mod-Rewrite pro ( http://www.micronovae.com/ModRewrite/ModRewrite.html ). It’s a bit more expensive, but it’s worth it. I don’t really have much experience with either tool, but I’m quite experienced with mod_rewrite. I recently had to transfer a complex project from apache to IIS. I tried ISAPI_Rewrite but it failed to work correctly with recursive rewrites. Also it could not rewrite the default document and the RewriteOptions inherit failed to work. I then switched to IIS mod-rewrite and everything went smooth. I don’t know if it just happened to work, but it seems that IIS Mod-Rewrite works better when transfering .htaccess rewrites. -- The standard version sells for less money, but it does not support .htaccess, thus I don’t think it’s worth choosing it over Pro or any version of ISAPIRewrite.

For simple websites, though, I guess ISAPIrewrite Lite is more than enough, and it’s free!

Has anyone gotten ISAPI_Rewrite to successfully use .htaccess for MODx? I can’t seem to "make it go."

Have you tried to ask this question to ISAPI_Rewrite support forum?
