Hello everybody, I’m new to MODx but I’ve found that this is what I was looking for in a CMS (or CMF).

I’ve been reading the documentation and various topics in the forum, after that much reading I’m not sure wether should I use IIS on windows 2003 (which is the platform I use/know)? or should I learn and install Apache?
I want to use Friendly URLs but I have the impression that Apache (via mod_rewrite) has native support for that or at least is easier to configure than in IIS.
All your advice on this will be appreciated.
    • Apache... XAMPP is your friend. 10000% sure about this.

      • Well, if you want to give yourself an unnecessary rough ride then use IIS, otherwise use Apache. It’s a no-brainer IMHO ... laugh

          • IIS is just as good smiley

The only extra requirement is to install an ISAPI plugin on the server for FURLs ISAPI Rewrite it is called smiley

Plus, almost everyone here can better help you if you have Apache.

              IIS is just.... bloated ...

if you ask me I would definitely suggest you to learn and start using Apache. Let me tell you it is a dam could solution and you will never regret.

Choice of hosting platform is dependent on the environment.

While Apache is by far the best option out there - its not always feasible to run Apache in Parallel with IIS.

I run my own ones at home on IIS - simply because I only have one server - at that server was already configured with Windows Software Update Services and I use the Remote Administration Interface.

If I were to run apache on this server - not only would I be running Dual MySQL/Embed MS SQL 2000 databases - but also Dual Hosts - both asking to listen on port 80 - I would need to configure Apache to listen on another port - or completely re-install WSUS to another port - and then resync the databases. Setting up another port means another entry in the router - and double handling of the security requirements of a webhost.

So for my server - IIS is the IDEAL solution - although I tend to develop on XAMP.
