Here is the error message I’m getting under the search field:

    "AjaxSearch: php_mbstring extension required"

I figure this could be one of two things...

    1. I just uploaded the site for the first time and I put it under mydomain.com/newsite/ while it’s being debugged. Is there a direct file path that needs to be changed?

    2. When I uploaded the site, the database login/pw changed to a remote server. Is there a setting in the search function I need to change to correct this?

If you have experience in this and know what might be causing the problem, I’d love to know. If it is one the things I listed, could you direct me to the correct file? I know how to change it, I’m just not very good with PHP and can’t find which file holds those settings.

Thanks in advance. I tried a Google search and a forum search on that error and came up with nothing.

Ask your host about it, its a php config issue probably.

It’s GoDaddy. They offer zero support for outside software.

mbstring is an extension for PHP.
Most hosts enable it by default, it doesn’t require any special effort on their part!

Thanks. That gives me something to ask them. So you think that mbstring is simply disabled?

Inside the Modx Manager go to Reports => System Info => phpInfo() View
scroll down through the PHP configuration section, after a few items they’re then done in alphabetical order.
You would see no entry for mbstring, where most sites will have a sub section showing settings for the mbstring extension

Excellent, there’s nothing there. Thanks for pointing that out. I already fired off a trouble ticket to GoDaddy so now it’s just a matter of waiting to hear what they say.
