    Hi MODx wizards
I want to install MODx on a standalone machine for testing/learning before going online with my first site.
    This is the environment:
OS: Windows 2000 Professional ServicePack IV
    and XAMPP latest version
    PHP: 5.1.1
    MySQL: 5.0.20
    ---------
DO I install MODx to the doc root folder (htdocs)?
Anything else I should be considering while installing on a windows machine?
    I appreciate any help.
    Thanks.

You should be in good shape. I know Jason uses about 10 different XAMPP versions for various testing scenarios.

              Cool modXusr,
I’ve decided to go this route too, the only difference I is I have winXP home version, don’t think that will be a glitch then. Tried installing on a remote host, but until I develop something locally, I’ve got nothing to show the world anyways.
Trying to figure out how to install aspdotnet on Xampp while I’m at it, if anyone here has even tinkered with this, give me a shout. Until then I’ll just setup the basic Xampp install.

As far as I know, ASP.Net is only truly compatible with Microsoft IIS Server. Other wise you need TomCAT I guess to run ASP with Apache but its not good IMO. TomCat is for JSP (Thanks to Ryan for correction.)

You can have XAMPP and Microsoft IIS on same computer, but one of them can run at a time. When you need to test ASP.Net pages Shutdown XAMPP from its control panel, start IIS server from Administrative Tools and vice versa.

                Hope this helps.

                regards,

Tomcat is for JSP, not ASP.
