I am in the middle of this now.
I have an existing site built for a restaurant owner using static code: strict XHTML. The business has three locations. The menu is nicely presented using a lot of CSS. The owner needs to change the menu several times a year and editing the actual code is a pain as any error or missing tag will destroy the design.
I am switching it all over to MODx. The CSS I am keeping but adding it to the path that TinyMCE uses. I use a chunk to present the presentation. I then use drop down styles from the TinyMCE editor. There are only three styles to pick from: headings, dish names and dish descriptions. So the owner can take the new developed menu and copy it from a text file and paste it into the TinyMCE window. He then highlights each line and pics one of the three styles to style each item. Its boring to do, but much safer and easier to do than editing the markup directly and then using FTP to upload back to the server.
There are so many ways of presenting restaurant menus. Lots of restaurants use PDF’s but I feel that many site visitors dislike downloading PDF files. Having the menus nicely styled with CSS and created with a 15 minute MOD manager session is a really nice way to go in my book.
Nice job on the website! It looks great.
Thanks!
The client is very happy with the site and the pictures (I did all the photography.) We are talking about adding more content (MaxiGallery etc) and some more page options using custom TV’s...
