Friends, I have sinned. I started developing a simple site in Wordpress. But I’m fed up with hacking and am going to do it in MODx instead. grin

Anyway, this is a US-based site that is currently hosted on GoDaddy, which was fine when it was a static site. But reading what people have said about the difficulties of hosting MODx on GoDaddy, I’m considering transferring to another host.

Which leaves the question of which host?

I’ve only used UK hosts before and I don’t know anything about US hosts.

The site will be reasonably small and simple, and won’t have that much traffic, at least for the first year (after which the traffic will probably increase a fair amount). The client is an individual who can’t pay too much for hosting.

So, any recommendations? I do want the site to run fairly well, and in my experience, the bottlenecks seem to come with MySQL rather than PHP, so a database that performs well is a requirement. Good backups and support would be a bonus.

    Thanks!

Bluehost has been very reliable and reasonably priced.

Best of all, they have a great SimpleScripts install for MODx that will install MODx 0.9.6.3 for you in a flash.

BlueHost is a MODx partner hosting company. If you sign up through this link MODx will get credit for your visit:

        Thanks. I’ll look into them.

In the meantime, if anyone else has any other recommendations for hosts they’ve used, that would be fantastic too.

I’ve had good luck with Site5, but they lack an automatic installer for modx.

The servers run well, the support is good, and they have a great community. My sites are running on an older site5 server. The newer servers typically have 8 processors, 8 gb of ram, and in excessive of 1TB of space. If you have any questions about them let me know.

Thanks! I’ll check them out too. An automatic installer isn’t necessary (although it’s always nice) as I’ve installed enough MODx sites now to do it in my sleep!
