I hope someone knows how the following can be solved.

After login in in the manager I’m frequently sent back to the login page. Sometimes I manage to save a couple of pages, other times this behaviour happens over and over again.
This problem started after I moved the website to the live environment (hosted bij active 24) on other hosts it never occurred.

    Using
    ModX 0.9.6.3
PHP Version 5.1.6 with session support enabled

    .htacces
    # MODx supports Friendly URLs via this .htaccess file. You must serve web
    # pages via Apache with mod_rewrite to use this functionality, and you must
    # change the file name from ht.access to .htaccess.
    #
    # Make sure RewriteBase points to the directory where you installed MODx.
    # E.g., "/modx" if your installation is in a "modx" subdirectory. If you have
    # problems with your .htaccess working at all, try un-commenting the first
    # line above the "RewriteEngine On" directive.
    #
    # You may choose to make your URLs non-case-sensitive by adding a NC directive
    # to your rule: RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php?q=$1 [L,QSA,NC]

    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteBase /

    #RewriteRule (.*) http://example-domain-please-change.com/$1 [R=301,L]

    # or for the opposite domain.com -> www.domain.com use the following
    # >>> DO NOT USE BOTH THE ABOVE AND BELOW <<<
    #
    #RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} .
    #RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www\.example-domain-please-change\.com [NC]

    # If your server is not already configured as such, the following directive

    #
    # To verify that this option has been set to OFF, open the Manager and choose

I hope somebody can help me out with this.

    Best Regards,

Are you on a shared server or a clustered server?

        Hi Ryan

I’m sure it’s a shared server. I haven’t got a reply from the host if it’s also clustered.

We are having the same exact issue on The RackSpace Cloud hosting platform called Mosso. We have two sites running on the cloud that are fine one is 0.9.6.2 and one is 0.9.6.3. Any additional sites that we try to install on the cloud hosting has this issue of not being able to be logged into the manager.

I’m on a shared server and experiencing the same issue.  ModX 0.9.6.3 and PHP Version 5.1.6 except I can’t even get into the manager.

First time experiencing it with this host, which has several other MODx installations running fine.

The difference: this time I tried installing with PHP running as a FastCGI app.  Previous installations have PHP running as a module (with associated permissions headaches!) but never any session issues.

Very frustrated.  Just spent an hour messing with htaccess and php files to get past the installation loop issue, now this.  sad

Tried specifying the session save path in the manager’s index.php (that got me past the install loop when done on the install’s index.php) but no joy.

Currently looking at the solution in this thread:
            http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php?topic=35112.0

Will need to contact my host for some clarification on whether it’s clustered or not..

            -UPDATE-

Contacted my host and they said they’d tweaked their permissions and to try again. They also suggested a new default sessions folder path to try (didn’t try it yet but good to know).  The permissions change was enough, as I can now get into the Manager no problem.  Very impressed with my host’s support and speed. www.jabwebsolutions.co.uk

UK based servers, UK support team, fast responses to tickets even though I was sending them on a sunday and there’s an 8 hour time difference (their last ticket was stamped 11:55pm GMT!). I recommend them unreservedly.
