uk based modx compatible host hunt - anyone heard of these ...

I’m looking for a good UK based modx compatible host after loads of problems on a previously fine rackspace setup after a plesk upgrade.

Does anyone have any views on these guys:

or these:

I heard about onesmarthost via this thread:

Anybody have any further opinions here? Is it properly reliable on WAMP ?

Thanks in advance

Check out http://www.onesmarthost.co.uk/ It’s windows hosting, but from what I hear they do a great job and the post here often.

Aaron at OneSmartHost offers very good hosting/support for Modx, I’m speaking as a highly satisfied customer.
There’s no reason to be put off by Windows hosting with Aaron.
If you really can’t live with Windows I have had no problems with Heart Internet other than with a very high traffic site.

I’m not in the UK, but based on the posts here, OneSmartHost has *many* satisfied MODx customers.

Thanks all,

We run Windows IIS servers which run MODx like a dream and can provide you with a free install along with excellent support.

Looks like motion towards onesmarthost i’d say ;-)
Of the other two i mentioned, one hasn’t responded to an initial sales phone enquiry so i reckon that says goodnight!

I forgot to mention we are running a promo until 31st Jan 25% discount for the first year

If you have any questions don’t hesitate to contact me via the forums here or via the onesmarthost contact page.

HI Onesmarthost,

Is there a way to archive the whole modx folder for backup purposes? Like you would do in a terminal?

Thx

At the moment there is not, however we could do this upon request for you.

We also run daily backups of the servers and keep 7 days worth of backups along with 7 days of retention.

MySQL Databases are backed up daily and stored for 10 days.

We will however be upgrading to Helm 4 Control Panel in a couple of months this will then allow you to backup your entire website at a click of a button and restore if you wish.

Remember, too, that the BkupModx module will back up your entire site to a zip file which you can then download with a couple of clicks. I just installed it on a number of sites and backed them all up. The whole operation took less than an hour, including installing the module.
