Hello fellow posters. I am new to installing CMS applications and MODx. I have used CMS applications before, but only as an end user, and not from a fresh installation point of view. After much researching I found that MODx seems to be easy to install and a powerful application to use. I currently installed the MODx CMS into on godaddy hosting account. I have a deluxe account running on Linux. It also has a built in SQL module which I have enabled with username and password for MODx. I have uploaded the MODx upzipped files on to my server and have access to the online installation panel. I however have not managed to configure my account to be able to use MODx.

I am not sure what is the problem here, I think it could be the permissions settings on Godaddy’s sql which I am not familiar with either. Or maybe I did not enter the correct username and host information in the "connection information" and "default admin" user section. I entered different database host name (not really sure if I am getting this right) and either got a "connection to host failed" message or using another database host name, i did not get an error page but it actually goes to a MODx page but with nothing (no content on it). I am however not sure if if this means it has been correctly configured successfully or are there still some issues with my configuration resulting in no content being displayed on the page.

I would appreciate if some kind soul could lead me to any documentation or dummy guide to installing MODx on godaddy as I am currently struggling trying to install it for my site. Thank you so much in advance.

I think that GoDaddy has some interesting configuration "choices" for their Linux servers that aren’t dedicated or virtual dedicated. I’d love to see a guide to installing MODx on GoDaddy shared servers when you get it figured out. Good luck!

        Greetings nawin,

I just had to do a MODx install on Godaddy hosting a few minutes ago for a client.

OK...so you’ve uploaded your unzipped MODx files to the server? Next, in your Hosting Control Panel of Godaddy, go to Databases-->MySQL. Once there, click "Create Database". Once you’ve created a new database and it has set up, click on the edit icon to the right of the name of the database you’ve just created (there should be a pencil icon and a "x" icon next to each other...click the pencil icon). Inside you’ll see "MySQL Database Information"...these are the values you’ll plug in while setting up MODx.

Host Name: put this value in for hostname
Database Name: put this value in for database
User Name: put this value in for user name
        etc.

Hope this helps...it worked fine for me.

I installed MODx on a Godaddy Deluxe hosting a few months back and remember it being the biggest pain. Their settings were difficult to navigate around. Here’s one of the problems I ran into and was able to get help from the MODx community to fix it:

            Install results
Setup will now attempt to setup the database:

Creating connection to the database: OK!

            Selecting database `bmd2`: OK!

            Checking table prefix `modx_`: OK!

            Creating database tables: Database Alerts!

MODx setup couldn’t install/alter some tables inside the selected database.

The following errors had occurred during installation

CREATE command denied to user ’brokenman’@’72.167.232.55’ for table ’modx_active_users’ during the execution of SQL statement CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS `modx_active_users` ( `internalKey` int(9) NOT NULL default ’0’, `username` varchar(50) NOT NULL default ’’, `lasthit` int(20) NOT NULL default ’0’, `id` int(10) default NULL, `action` varchar(10) NOT NULL default ’’, `ip` varchar(20) NOT NULL default ’’, PRIMARY KEY (`internalKey`) ) TYPE=MyISAM COMMENT=’Contains data about active users.’.

            any ideas?

The database user must have create permissions set when the database and user are created.
