Yep, that’s all that should be in the file. When I look at your PHPinfo file it says that register_globals is set to Off, so it looks to me like it’s working. Why do you think it might not be?

      Hey Zap,

You mentioned you see the settings saying "Off", but when I look under the "PHP Core" section (http://rent2ownhomesonline.com/info.php), I see it saying "ON" for register_globals in both the local value and master value. Not sure why we’re seeing something different... sad

Dunno what to tell you. I just looked again, and it says Off for both values. Are you perhaps looking at the line above or below?

I see them as OFF too. I’m guessing you’re looking at a cached page in your browser from before you fixed the syntax (from my bad info -- sorry).

See if the MODx Manager still gives you a warning. If not, you’re all set.

Huh...I cleared my cache and now I see what you guys mean...it says register_globals is now OFF. Crazy thing is that the warning still appears in the Manager area...not sure why. I cleared the Cache in the manager area and still getting the warning.

Thanks again Zap and everyone for your advice...I guess technically it’s working even though the warning still shows up in Manager area.

Thanks again for all our help!

Hmm... Well sometimes depending upon your server configuration you may need to put a copy of that php.ini file in every subdirectory of your site as well (/manager in particular). If your server is setup properly and you’re putting this php.ini file in the right place (which it appears you are, looking at your phpinfo page), then you should only need one in the root directory, but sometimes it’s just easier to upload a copy to every subdirectory than figure out why it’s not working as it should.

                FINALLY!

Thanks Zap, your last piece of advice to put the php.ini file in all the subdirectory folders (I put it in the /manager and /assets folder) did the trick and now it works! Strange how little things like that can take forever to figure out! smiley

                Thank you so much!

You’re welcome. Most of what I know I’ve learned from suffering through similar situations until I figured it out or someone explained it to me. Better to pass on the info and save others as much of the suffering stage as possible.

If you look in the root folder where MODx is installed you should have a either an .htaccess file an ht.access file or both. If you changed the default MODx ht.access file to enable Friendly urls there should be a line in there that says:

                    #php_flag register_globals Off

It should be at or around line 73.

If you remove the "#" and rename the file to .htaccess this should do the trick. UNLESS you are on a server that runs php as a CGI application or in what is calles suExec and in which case this won’t work and you will have to disable register_globals in a php.ini file but try the .htaccess first and get back to the forum.

                    All the best,

                    Jay

Neat!! I just tried this myself, after searching the forums for the same answer/question. All done and perfecto! laugh

Hah - just takes a little digging to get the answers sometimes. wink

So can we confirm that on GoDaddy shared servers setting register_globals Off via .htaccess works, or is it only on their semi-dedicated (virtual) servers and above that it works?
