    Hi Everyone,

I’ve done a little bit of research into e-commerce solutions to pair with MODx. I know of the two, which seem stand out, Treasure Chest and FoxyCart and I know that people love FoxyCart. My question is, my client has only one product which she wants to sell online, in the future maybe more but never probably more that three to five.

Should I recommend FoxyCart as an e-commerce solution or in people’s opinion, should I just be looking for something w/less overhead like basic redirect to PayPal or Google checkout etc. (or possibly another plugin for MODx)? I realize this is partly a MODx question and partly a general e-commerce question so I appreciate you reading this and taking the time to respond.

    Cheers,
    Jess

Oh...and I’ll probably be looking to hire a developer for this. I know this isn’t the board for that, but if anyone reading this is interested, please drop me a line and I’ll let you know when I post that thread...

        Jess,

I will soon be taking on a similar project. I have a client in the asian medicine field who needs a site: very inviting spa like etc. I will be doing the design and the photography. Then comes deploying it all with MODx. She then wants an easy to use e-commerce system to sell just one or two products. This (adding e-commerce) is a venture I have not done before. I wish there was a proven system that was to easy to deploy and easy to manage from the client end.

So, I think I will be pretty much on the same quest as you are and will be watching this thread with great interest.

          Hey Jess and Photowebmax,

Yeh, I LOVE Foxy Cart and MODx together...you can do some pretty cool things with Ecommerce. I "serve" (not an actual paid employee, but friends of the owners) on the Foxy Cart team to develop screencast (you can see many of my older ones here: http://wiki.foxycart.com/screencasts) and have done some screencasts explaining how to set up Foxy Cart specifically on MODx.

About what specific system to use...Paypal, Treasure Chest, Foxy Cart, etc., I guess that depends on several factors. One thing with Foxy Cart is that you can create a custom checkout page which you can’t do in the others (I’m not sure about Treasure Chest as I’ve never used it before).

Please let me know if I can be of service as I get a lot of gigs to set up Foxy Cart specifically on client’s MODx sites. You can visit my website at: http://www.my619.com

            Hi Flinx,

Thanks for the reply. I would most likely use FoxyCart for a larger e-commerce effort, it looks great. I think for this effort we’ve decided it’s too much overhead for one product although if the client wanted to pay for it we would do it. It’s just a matter of cost/benefit at this point.

We’re also exploring using http://venmo.com as another avenue of accepting credit card payments. The fee is 3.5% per transaction, which is a little higher than PayPal or Google Checkout, but it’s super convenient and the cool factor is pretty high. grin

I should note, the fee is 3.5% per transaction for small business owners...not sure what it is for non-business owners.

Foxy Cart itself only charges $15/month plus you have to get a Payment Gateway/Merchant Account to actually run the Credit Card transactions. The best deal I’ve found for this so far that works with Foxy Cart is CDG commerce. It cost $10/month plus a 2.3% + $.30 per transaction (http://www.cdgcommerce.com/internet-services.php?R=1643).

I’m just starting to use foxycart on a single product website. The product does come in 4 colours and sizes and combinations of sets and/or pairs. Foxtcart looks great for this.

Price has increased now to $19p/m

Yeh, Foxy Cart would be perfect for something like this.

They just raised to $19/month a few days ago. Still, at $19 Foxy Cart is a steal with all the powerful functionality it contains.
