    I really want to use magenta to run my shop cart but use modx to deal with all the content pages outside of the shop.

    I’m happy to have 2 seperate logins but it would be great if I could add a modx genterated navigation to magenta and also pull in the magenta shopping cart onto the modx pages. Anyone achieved anything similar to this?

    Thanks

    Ben

      I assume you ment Magento not magenta.

      Yes it’s possible but not that easy to configure and set-up. Have a look at this post: http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/topic,40682.0.html

        I think it’s gonna be difficult to bend either application to the will of the other... MODx is a CMS, Magento is an eCommerce app with very limited CMS abilities. Integrating the two is not easy, which is why FoxyCart has a certain appeal to it: it doesn’t attempt to integrate fully -- it’s a blessing and a curse in that way, but it doesn’t get in the way of your CMS.

          Thanks for the input hwmaier and Everett.

          I’ll give the suggestions in that post ago hwmaier.

          The main aim is just getting the navigation visible with in shop, I suppose there is always iframes grin

          Thanks

            You could try to generate an xml/text/html file containing the menu and make Magento read the file and show the menu.

                I tried to avoid the iframes, hence the snippet. I am not sure what impact iframes have on SEO and did not want to risk any disadvantages compared to an all-in-one page concept.

                  I’ve done this with Xcart which uses Smarty. Just have your Wayfinder save an HTML file of the menu to the filesystem, and have Magento include it (hopefully you can include files with php in Magento). There is a wiki post on this too that might give you some more ideas: http://wiki.modxcms.com/index.php/MODx_site_menu_in_external_PHP_app

                    Hi James,

                      If it’s just a menu that will stay forever (even not it’s ok as update is super easy), don’t think too complicated, just copy the menu code (from browser > view source) and paste it to Magento template file. Logical choice is ’header.phtml’, but you can also create a Static Block with this code place in "header.phtml"

                      <?php echo $this->getLayout()->createBlock('cms/block')->setBlockId('your_wayfinder_menu')->toHtml() ?>

                      Then from Magento admin, create a static block with "your_wayfinder_menu" as identifier, place the menu code in the content area. If you don’t want the menu shows up in certain pages, you can use XML update to overwrite it.

                      Hope this helps!
