I have a harsh problem with implementing the SEO Strict URL plugin.. I have done a lot of googling + search on the modx forums, but didnt find an answer to my problem. I hope I didn’t miss a solution being posted around and I also hope I am posting to the right forum branch. I believe, that there is a stupid mistake somewhere around and I have spent several hours solving it without any success sad

    MY Tree structure:
    /cs language1(default "Site start")
    --/FolderX

    /de language2
    --/FolderY

    /en language3
    --/FolderZ

    The issue:
When I enable the plugin i have just partial success. The problem:

http://www.sencopb.cz/cs is correctly redirected to http://www.sencopb.cz as it is set as a default start site.

But links on this page link incorrectly like this:

    http://FolderX instead of correct http://www.sencopb.cz/cs/FolderX

the wayfinder outputs the menu tree items like this:

    http://www.sencopb.cz//FolderX.

So the problem is two fold.. I) in the wayfinder I miss the language1 part of the URL (the double backslash there).. (+I would be missing the whole URL as well if I hadn’t &fullLink=`TRUE` ie. having the relative URL only)... II) the links do miss the whole URL and only show relative URLs. Those are normal link like [~id~]...

The behaviour is correct once I am under the page http://www.sencopb.cz/de or http://www.sencopb.cz/en (therefore not redirected to the base site http://www.sencopb.cz as happens with http://www.sencopb.cz/cs) there are none of the problems above. The [~id~] output a full URL correctly with the SEO strict plugin enabled and the Wayfinder does it’s job correctly thanks to the &fullLink=`TRUE`...

Edit: All templates include the <base href="[(site_url)]" />

It is interesting that all pages are generated with a correct <base href="http://www.sencopb.cz/" /> all the time... but the links on the intro page have the broken links as well as all links leading to the page with the language under the default site folder (container)... For. ex.: If I want to switch to a default language (cs) from a (ge)rman subpage the link is broken as well..

I hope I have described my problem in a understandable way. I’d love any kind of help.. or at least pointing to the right direction as this makes me stressed that I cannot solve a problem for such a long time.

    THANKS A LOT!

    EDIT:
    Details:
    MODx version 1.0.0
    Version codename rev 5601

    PHP Version: 5.2.0-8+etch15
    Database Version: 5.0.32-Debian_7etch10-log

In the end I have found that the only way to get around this problem (at least for now) is to create another link-resource in the site root (not visible in the menu) set it as a default start page in the MODx configuration and link it to the intro-language page that I want to have once I enter the main (second level) domain. This has solved the problems, as anticipated when this idea sprang to my mind, but it has a draw back.

Once you enter the main URL (in this case http://www.sencopb.cz/ ) You are directly redirected to http://www.sencopb.cz/cs ... I wonder how big impact (negative impact) this can have on SE page rank? Any ideas from the SEO prospective? I have tried to search for the possible impact for the past two days without much success.

Any idea how to fix this issue in another way or how much impact this redirection can have on the pagerank are appreciated. THANKS FOR ANY ADVICE!

I haven’t used this plugin but are you using
        <head>
        <base href="[(site_url)]"></base>
        </head>

Thanks for your answer.. do you propose using [(base_url)]?

No, the [(site_url)] will allow you to use relative links everywhere for internal links.

Oh, I get it.. I didnt understand mrhaw’s question. Yes I use <base href="[(site_url)]" /> in all my teplates that are being used on the site.

But I was actually thinking that there might other solution to my problem without the need of having to redirect the main page.

Maybe create a TV with a default value [(site_url)] and for the pages under the default language tree replace the value with a hardcoded href. + Change the templates <base href="[*TV*]" />

I will be thinking about trying this solution but the only thing that might come handy is the Doc Manager to change all the 30 TVs under the defalut language tree..

Unfortunately I am still fighting with this batch editing problem in DocManager: http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/topic,36275.0.html

I’ll stick with my previous solution for now. I have tried the base href modification with a sample test and it seems that even if there is a hardcoded href of http://www.sencopb.cz/cs/ the SEO strict plugin cuts the cs and the page is generated with a <base href="http://www.sencopb.cz//" /> ~ with double slashes. Interestinngly during the original problem the base was generated correctly with a <base href="http://www.sencopb.cz/" /> but the links were broken as I have writen in the opening post (did some editing to the opening post now, to clarify things).

In any case I really do not understand where the problem is. I did dig deep but I am still nowhere. No there is a question wether to use the mod with a possible drawback and SE hit (described above) or disable the plugin?

I am sorry to bother again, but did any one think of a possible solution? At least some hints about a possible SEO penalty of my solution a few posts up might be helpful. Thanks a lot! rolleyes
