I know this has probably been asked about a gazillion times but is there a shopping cart or plans for a shopping cart? Believe it or not I’m working on a site for a pet photographer and I need a shopping cart where they will not only sale prints but also cards. I was thinking of a shopping cart that would use Google’s Checkout or Paypal. I did search for shopping cart and read through quite a few posts but never did see a definitive answer to my question.

    thanks,

There is a shopping cart for MODx called Kiwee:

NOTE TO SELF: http://www.muddydogpaws.com/development/wayfinder/examples/example-1.html for all your navigational questions.
      • There’s also http://foxycart.com/ and some efforts on the forums for another "native" cart.

Thanks for the info. I think I will try playing with Kiwee first.

My client also needs a shopping cart plugging into a MODx site I put together for them.

My suggestion was to go with www.foxycart.com because it’s easy to setup and tie in, but they are under the impression that creating a form with a couple of fields to send to the cart would be a little out of their league. rolleyes

They are currently using mycart.com with an older version of the site...which looks hedious...even to a non-designer like me.

Does anyone know of any cart solutions that I could manage items & monitor everything like a normal Zencart, mycart xt:commerce type affair, and still template/css them well enough to create a seamless connection with MODx?

I’m at a loss at the moment, so any advice etc. would be great.

            Thanks,
            Taff

            • If the MODx site itself doesn’t require a web user login, you might be best off going with a separate cart application, and skin it to match the MODx site. Your client will need to log in to its manager separately, but they should be able to handle that.

@Taff: There’s at least one project (maybe two, still discussing) going on to add some order/customer tracking/management type functionality into MODx using FoxyCart, if that helps.

Not to disagree with Susan (whom I almost always agree with), but I’d think carefully about going with a separate cart application. You end up having two entirely separate sites, and once you get used to how amazing MODx is to template, there’s just no going back (for me at least) to something like ZenCart. Rather keep it all in MODx and your CSS.

                  Hey Brett,

This is the PayFlow client I mentioned on your forum. Payflow was the way they decided they wanted to go. I’m just hoping I can find someone at PayPal to give me some answers so i can hopefully tie it into FoxyCart.

After I showed them how easy it was to create a link from a template to make it look like http://greenmountaingringo.us/products.html

I think we are going for it...now if I could just get hold of someone at PayPal!

Thank you both for your offerings!

Integration with something like Foxycart seems the best way to go. If you once tasted the nice separation of form/function/appearance of MODx, I doubt if you wanna go back. For us a little disappointing that Foxycart seems to have some trouble understanding the concept of "Euro", Exchange rates, VAT and international payments. Credit card, Paypal and for our country, Holland, iDEAL (about 65% of all online payments now) wink

@Tom, Thanks for the feedback. It’s not that we don’t understand the concept. It’s that we radically underestimated the international demand we’ve seen. wink Our fault on that one.

We’re currently finishing up a round of some bug fixes, but after that we’ll be working on more (and more flexible/modular) payment, shipping, and tax options.
