I love the shopX 2.1 snippet- but for a client that needs a functioning commerce application on their ModX site relatively quickly and robustly, I’ve taken the advice here to go for CubeCart until further notice.

I just have one question- I’m no php expert, but if possible I’d like to integrate CubeCart into the look of the ModX template I’m using, have it show the DropDown menu, and basically interoperate with ModX if at all possible (and if not, I’ll work with the shopX snippet). So I set up my storefront as a weblink page, and tinkered with it to call to config.inc.php using the same code in the main index.php page.

It works beautifully, and my goal is within reach, except of course for the fact that by calling config.inc.php from a directory level down (within a directory called ’store’), and effectively announcing itself as the base URL for the whole site, every link in the dropdown looks for other page IDs within the store directory and comes up with file not found. I made a duplicate of config.php.inc called config2.php.inc, in the hopes that I could somehow:

    1. change the new config file to understand that all URls on the site are a directory level up.

    2. have this store/index.php page believe that it is some page other than the site’s main index. perhaps I can get it to udnerstand it is the weblink page, but I don;t know whether the weblink page can invoke a template or not.

Perhaps this question should be asked elsewhere, but if anyone has any hints or knows whther or not this is even possible, I would be very grateful! smiley

Robsta has also spent a fair amount of time tweaking CubeCart to work with MODx and vice versa. He could probably offer some valuable insight in managing issues betwixt the two systems.

Regarding integrating modx and cubecart, the best method I’ve found is to copy the template HTML and alter the paths to work with Cubecart. The top level menus I have hard coded into cubecart, a pain but it does work nicely. I’ve always kept the two systems separate, not wanting to add complexity to a simple solution. I see nothing wrong with having cubecart in a sub directory called ’shop’ for example, as long as the templating provides a seemless transition. I’ve done some tricks here and there to help give the impression of one system within modx.

Cubecart is much more difficult to customise the individual elements (compared to modx that is, piece of cake compared to other ecommerce packages), but it works on a similar principle as modx in the way that it uses placeholders in HTML templates. It’s much easier to create a Cubecart template, then copy that template structure into modx and configure the elements to act the same as cubecart. The same structural images and CSS can then be used with ease.

            Hope this helps.

              Susan,

What is the state of the shopX project? I’ll try adding it soon, whatever state it is in.

              Robsta,

You have an "Â" appearing before each "£" sign in your shop.

You do appear to have seamless solution!

Well, since I actually have a Paying Job now, my time has been severly curtailed, and it’s on "hold" at the moment. I’ll try to take a few minutes to pack up the latest files and attach them. There really isn’t much difference from what’s already here. At least the demo on my site is back to working (as far as it goes, no payment modules, just the interface for them).

Yes, something happened to the server yesterday, still looking into the problem.

                  Thanks for the feedback  smiley

Edit: Server problem... caused by a mySQL service pack upgrade apparently.

                    Hi Sue.

The Trunk’s down (well the shopX bit is anyway)! Did you know?

Also is there any kind of install & use instructions for ShopX for a newby?
I believe I’ve got all the Snippets & TV’s in place but not sure how they get used!

Cheers - great work to date though, I’ve been watching this post for a while but only had the need to do a shopping cart for someone now. I would dearly love to have it all in MODx. It’s such an awesome CMS!

                    Thanks,
                    Paul.

Didn’t know there was a "trunk" for shopx. Basically there’s two snippets and a plugin, and a bunch of TVs for the checkout snippet. I’ve never actually used it for anything, I just did is as a proof-of-concept for using native MODx functionality.
