I just notices there is an Inventory Management System (IMS) Snippet in the Etomite forum:
      http://www.etomite.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=3674

Its a simple shopping cart, with optional Paypal Cart integration, seems similar to what you are working on here. Maybe you could borrow some ideas.

Just my 2c here. And I’ll try ShopX asap, as it looks like the mid-level solutions I was looking for clients before they go to a full cart solution.

          I think it’s mamboo specific.
Check out this one http://www.cpcommerce.org. I’m using it right now for my current project. Simple interface and easy to be templated. It’s almost like MODx, except for the fact that the administration is a little but hassle, when dealing with a lot of items.

I very highly recommend CubeCart (http://www.cubecart.com/) It’s not open source, but it is cheap and you have FULL flexibilty in template design like you do with MODx. (There a free version too. Does everything the pay-for version does just with Powered by Cubecart on it!)

one of the disadvantages of not having some items intergrated into the core modx is you end up with several independent programs that you have to css to get it to blend with your site and when it comes to updating you have to update several things, a real mess sometimes and much work for some did I say (pain in the ass ? ) grin

Maybe it’s inevitable with a cms like Modx to have to do this, would be nice to have some items hardwired or chunky snippet mod. We certainly don’t want to be another joomla where everything is built in to the point of code maddness.

example of what i’m refering to

potential items to update if independent of each other
              - modx cms
              - smf forum
              - shop (cart of choice)
              - mail list
              - blog (if chose an add on)
              - calendar

this is just an idea of what could be much pain down the road, having a few items is ok but when you have several it can be a hassle, just things to think about.

I can think of at least 5 for me that I’ll have to do independant since its not in the resource list.

                Check out this one http://www.cpcommerce.org.
Thanks for the pointer! I’ve been looking for an e-commerce tool, maybe this could be the one. smiley

cpcommerce seems like a one-man project, and the developer seems busy. It’s a shame... I tried phpShop at one point, but the development seems to be totally stalled. sad

                  That’s so true.

I’m using right now, and I do a lot of hacking to the core code to do what I want it to do. I also realize that the management of products, categories, and aetc is a little bit hassle, because you need to go through page by page. It’s hard to explain it, but try installing v1.0.3 and create a new category or product, then you will understand what I mean by that.

The best thing is the flexibility in the code itself, allowing coder/hacker like me to modify the program to meet my needs. Another thing will be, it’s easy to be customized in terms of templating, but you won’t get away with table, duh.. undecided

                  Sincerely,

Hacking the code was what I had to do with phpShop... Perhaps it was fortunate that the project went nowhere after the initial prototype phase. I didn’t mind hacking at the time, but now I have very little time or energy. I want scripts that "just work" - like MODx! smiley

That said, I still have to check cpcommerce. wink

one thing as I had mentioned before about Modx being more than just a CMS but a teaching/learning environment as well, perhaps even Modx is a way to think outside the box ? Typically, all shops look the same, how about being creative "the modx way" and thinking of a new way to revolutionize the shopping experience ?

I’m not sure how or what but would be interesting laugh Since Modx is about CMS perhaps blending the shop within the layers of the content ? so instead of a store front it’s weaved into the content tapestry which will link to a storecart, i’m only brain babbling at the moment so not sure how it would appear.

How about a small shop snippet or chunk that could be easily placed within an article/page so if you are covering a particular subject you could insert a snippet to sell a product

anyway, you get the idea of where i’m going with this tongue
