Hi, I’ve installed modx and is suffering from a lot of php- and mySql errors when using the manager, especially when logging in. Probably has a lot to do with free hosting. I am using http://www.000webhost.com/ (to much traffic on the public mySQL is often the reason, that’s what I’ve read in forums).

What I did when installing was just uploading the modx1.0.1.zip, and the structure on the server is therefor: public_html/modx-1.0.1/manager/
Is it a possibility that tings would get better if I re-installed, and dropped the "modx-1.0.1" folder? making it public_html/manager(and assets and index.php and so on)?

(I’ve used chmod to change file and folder settings, someone said that might be the problem. But after trying a whole bunch of different values, even 777 on almost everything, I’m positive this isn’t the issue).

What are the php errors? (and what versions of PHP, MySQL etc. are running on the server). The MySQL problems sound entirely like an overloaded server struggling to cope with demand.

        PHP version 5.2.*
        MySQL ver. 5.0.81-community

        Errors:
Warning: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: User *username*_test already has more than ’max_user_connections’ active connections in /home/*username*/public_html/modx-1.0.1/manager/includes/extenders/dbapi.mysql.class.inc.php on line 89

Warning: mysql_num_rows(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource in /home/*username*/public_html/modx-1.0.1/manager/includes/user_settings.inc.php on line 18

Warning: mysql_fetch_assoc(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource in /home/*username*/public_html/modx-1.0.1/manager/includes/user_settings.inc.php on line 20

error replacing into active users! SQL: REPLACE INTO `*username*_modx`.`modx_active_users` (internalKey, username, lasthit, action, id, ip) VALUES (1, ’dalseide’, ’1257359152’, ’2’, NULL, ’88.90.233.147’) MySQL server has gone away

BTW: I’m am able to use the manager, just have to refresh the site from 1 to 10 times.

(*username* is where my actual username is typed, dont know if it’s sensetive info in any way but)
The first error: There is a restrain on how many users that can have access to the server at the same time since it’s free, the number is 1 at a time smiley If I use CPanel and at the same time log on via FTP, that counts as two connections. But in this case I’m only connecting via the MODx manager.

You were correct in your first analysis; this is an issue with the database server being severely limited. A clear case of "you get what you pay for".
