SOLVED / Connect New Install to Existing DB

I’m installing MODx Evo 1.04 onto a laptop PC and want to connect it to an existing database. I’ve done the export/import for the database and have everything hosted locally using WAMP. The issue I’m encountering occurs during the MODx install - I receive an error when testing the database selection that the table prefixes already exist and if I leave the prefix field blank, the install process writes new (duplicate) tables. In either case, I cannot connect the new modx instance to the pre-existing content.

I ran through the posts about connection issues, etc., but didn’t find anything relating to what I’ve described here. I’m sure I’m missing something basic - any input is appreciated!

Go ahead and make a new installation with a new database, then edit the manager/includes/config.inc.php file to use the database you want. You can drop the new database once the site is working on the old database.

Would it not be easier to just download the config file and put in the database details and run upgrade instead of install or am I missing something here
