The setup quits without problems or warnings and Modx has been successfully installed. What does this mean? Does the mentioned version works with Modx? Or does the setup not verify the MySQL version?

Out pattern matching does not detect the version properly when vendors add their own proprietary strings on the end like that, so the installer didn’t catch that it was a problem version. The actual bug in MySQL 5.0.51 that causes problems is broken sorting when you GROUP and ORDER BY the same column. This was a bigger problem in Evolution, but you may encounter similar issues with sorting Resources or other unexpected behavior in Revolution due to this particular bug as well.
