Installation Problems

Hi guys,

Sorry to sound like a complete n00b here but I’m having difficulties installing modx to my server, and after reading some other help files from both here and the modx install page, I think the issue is because the hosting server I use maybe shared and ALL user names contain an underscore which I cant stop with it all being automated, for some reason unknown to me, what ever username I chose, it always puts my default login name from the cpanel to create the mysql database in front of the username I add so I always get myname_username and then when running the installation, it connects to the mysql successfully but then fails when trying to create or test the database. Although I think I read about creating one manually, I have no idea how to go about this or even what to add where should I use the the myphpadmin function associated with the mysql database.

Any help to get me through this initial stage would be very much appreciated, and I apologise if I have missed any threads that already cover what must be a common error with shared servers.

Your domain control panel (CPanel?) most likely has a database "wizard". Use that to create the database, then use the phpMyAdmin utility to make sure it’s all in the correct character set and collation (should be utf-8).

The database name the "wizard" creates will most likely also have your domain name or username as a prefix (myname_databasename), so be careful to note the actual name of the database that gets created.

Many thanks for the reply, I’ve now managed to get further into the install after remaking the mysql and setting it to utf8, everything goes well until the final hurdle after adding an admin name, email address and password, then when I click the final install button I get the following message

Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, [email protected] and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Any idea why it wont install the final content ?
