Sample Web Site Content Blog Issue

Thought I’d flag this as I’m sure it must be an oversight or I’m understanding it wrong maybe. When I do a fresh install of Evo 1.0.4 using the sample website content, on the home page I see this

Automatic User Registration. Those that wish to comment on blogs must first create an account. This comes pre-configured with a "Captcha" anti-robot registration feature. View registration form

Yet when I browse to the blog I can post a comment without registering. I get the captcha. Is this right? Am I misunderstanding the commment "before commenting on the blog a user must create an account"?

Are you logged in as a manager user when you do this? Actually I haven’t installed the demo content for years, and I don’t think I ever did use the front-end blogging feature. It’s rather dated, PubKit and PubKitBlog are far and away better if you do need to use the front-end like that. I prefer having a limited manager user sent to a specified page on login and use QuickManager (with modified configuration of the QM plugin).

No I’m not logged in at all. Just thought I’d install a fresh version to test as I’m having to pay someone to make the blog commenting portion only for registered users on a non profit site I built a while back for a local streamkeepers group I’m a volunteer with. The person I’m getting to do this told me that anyone can comment on the blog which was why we were getting all the spam (even with a captcha) and I thought based on the statement in the sample content that you had to be registered to comment on the blog. In any case I wasn’t sure if the powers that be who created the sample content maybe forgot to make it the way they stated it was in the sample content so I thought I post here to see. As you can tell I’m no coder and a mediocre website designer at best (not my day job). Tried to find an answer that I could try on my own on the forum through different posts, but couldn’t, so I enlisted the help of a member after getting the okay from the board of directors of the society to pay him.

Please don’t take this the wrong way I was just trying to flag the statement in case someone else like me might be confused by it. Modx is a wonderful project just not as easy as everyone thinks for inexperienced newbies like myself.

To disable comments except for logged in users, add

to your Jot snippet call which is found in the Comments chunk.

This parameter accepts a comma seperated list of eligible user groups who can post. Also see the Jot snippet code for other params which can be set.

Thanks breezer however it’s too late I’ve already gotten someone to do it for me. Oh well, that is the way it goes. Just my luck.

Ah, I thought you meant posting blog articles! Jot is a different matter altogether!
