Please Help! Website hijacked to MODx CMS

Hello,

My associate’s website was hijacked by an unscrupulous website company that took her money and disappeared. They have since gone under but not before converting her site to the MODx CMS without sending any information on how to operate it.

We are not programmers but have a basic understanding of HTML. When we log in with our FTP client there are a bunch of the CMS directories and phps that don’t help us. We found the "assets" directory where it looks like our files are located but are not "authorized" to view or download them.

Can anyone please point us in the right direction? Is there a way to "Un-CMS" the site?

Any help would be greatly appreciated as we really need to be able to edit and update the site.

Hi Molly,

what you might want is someone to have a look at your FTP, you will need all the details from your host. The company that hosts your website. With the right access to the modx files and database it is possible to gain access to the modx administrator account. Then take it from there. Or create a whole new site, or export what you have now via modx to a static site. Or leave it in Modx and learn how to opperate and edit your site.

Okay sort it out, i once lost the admin password and there is à way to reset that.
I would be able to sort that for you. You will need all the details of your host. I also have "manuals" written that you guys could get. That should enable you to edit your site. Just PM me if you want, frank

Sorry to hijack the topic, any chance of sharing those "manuals" with everyone?

Well, I would have to change them and work on them some more, plus it are "for dummies" sort of manuals. I will start setting up a empty example site and build it from there. Then probably have some mother tongue correct my english I guess.

Molly, all your web pages are in the database. All you really should need is the database username and password. That will let you find out the name of the admin and reset the admin’s password. Then you can log in to the MODx Manager as the admin and see/manage the web site.

BTW, if there’s any chance of future trouble with the company that did the site, you’ll want to change the DB password and the cPanel password if your friend owns the domain once you have things working.
