Safemode / filepermission question

Hi everyone,

I got a specific question which I am able to find an answer to. I am using Revo 2.0.0 on Apache 2.2.14 and Php 5.2.12. (REVO rocks!)

Recently I told my host to remove safe mode from the hosting. This was done. As far as I am aware, this should mean there shouldn’t be any more problems with rights on files and directories. But, when Revo creates a directory with the filemanager, or a file, than the owner becomes "apache", while when I use the directadmin panel or FTP, than the owner is "username"

Practically this means I run into the following problem when I try to upload an image into a directory I made with the revo filemanager:
1) It doesn’t work, because the rights are 755 (owner is apache)
2) I can change the ownership to "username" and change rights to "777" in directadmin panel BUT
3) Revo doesn’t work anymore, because it operates as "apache" and it isn’t allowed to write into directory with owner "username" , this is in fact what the filemanager says "No permission to write" , something along those lines.

Quite frankly I am not sure what to do, and where to solve this...is it a hosting problem, a Revo problem? Any insight would be great!

It’s a server thing; the best you can do with that server configuration is change all the folders MODx needs to write to 777, and realize that your FTP user won’t be able to do anything with whatever you create or upload through MODx.

This is why I prefer to have a server that is configured to use suexec or the corresponding Apache module su_php. This switches user when running a php script to the owner of the script, rather than the Apache user.
