Installation error - hope this is the right place (noob!)

HI there,

I am trying to install MODx for the first time. I have a shared cPanel webserver, and I have put the MODx folder into the root public HTML folder and tried to run the setup.php.

I am getting the error:

FATAL ERROR: MODx Setup cannot continue.

* MODx requires the PDO extension when native PDO is being used and it does not appear to be loaded.
* MODx requires the pdo_mysql driver when native PDO is being used and it does not appear to be loaded.

I have searched the forums and found a similar thread whereby the PDO drivers must be installed by the site admin. However, I have spoken to the server admin who has (nicely) explained to me that the servers do not support PDO as it has not been installed and that installing the PDO libraries would not be possible as it is such a big job (something about compiling libraries etc). I have shown him the requirements page for MODx and he has seen that PDO is only desired, not required.

Can anyone help with this error and why I am getting it if PDO is not necessary for MODx to run?

PDO is required for MODx Revolution; it is not for MODx Evolution.

PDO is a standard in most up-to-date PHP setups. If your host does not feel that keeping his servers up-to-date is worth the task, I recommend switching hosts.

I will contact the host and give him the link to this thread, hopefully I can find a way to use MODx Revolution.
