Installation/Database Connection Problem?

I was able to get this far...

Connection Information
Database connection and login information

Please enter the name of the database created for MODx. If you there is no database yet, the installer will attempt to create a database for you. This may fail depending on the MySQL configuration or the database user permissions for your domain/installation.

Now please enter the login data for your database.

Database host:
Database login name:
Database password:
Database name:
Table prefix:

→ Test database server connection and view collations.

Connecting to mysql server: Success!
Connection character set: utf8
Collation: utf8_general_ci

→ Create or test selection of your database.

The only option is the "back" button at this point, so I would think I am done, but I think there is a LOT more to do for the install. The "Create or test selection of your database" hyperlink does not do anything.

You’re able to connect to the MySQL server, and select the character set and collation, but selecting or creating the database isn’t working.

Have you already created a database, or are you letting the installer create it?

I had a database set up (completely blank) and that did not work, and then I deleted the database and got to the same point, and was going to let modX create it, but I am at the same exact point. I cannot get further for some reason.

Well, this is frustrating. I added the database back with the same name - modx - to keep it simple, and still nothing. Any ideas would be very helpful, as I have wasted 3 hours so far...

Without more information - server platform, mysql version, etc it’s kind of hard to make any guesses as to what might be the problem.

I am a complete novice. Is this what you mean?

I just found that my host can install Evolution via simplescripts, but I was hoping to get Revolution so I do not have to relearn.

Ah. Revolution is another matter altogether. You might want to move over to one of the Revo-specific sections of the forum.
