Sorry for the repost but I am trying to disable magic quotes and after following the instructions to turn the feature off in php.ini, as well as in ht.access, the behavior remains and I am very frustrated. Can anyone please help me with this issue?
I’m running a local instance of modx v1.0.4 on MAMP. As stated above, I’ve altered php.ini in both 5.2 and 5.3 with ’magic_quotes_gpc = Off’ (only 5.2 needed to be changed) and added ’php_value magic_quotes_gpc off’ to ht.access.
Please, any help is greatly appreciated.

If you turned it off (check the phpinfo view in Reports -> System Info), you still have to repair existing items already in the database.
This issue was the naming convention for .htaccess. OS X v10.4+ won’t allow you to name files as system files (those that begin with ’.’). I had to recreate ht.access as a txt file and then rename it in Terminal. This set magic_quotes_gpc to ’off’ locally.

Most text editors will allow you to open hidden files, and to save as hidden files (after a warning).
