Yes, this topic has been exhausted already and I know that Wordpress is simply a blog engine whereas MODx is a complete system.

I still need to get your advice on whether I should migrate a site from WP to MDx.

The site in question is pretty much a daily video/photo posting blog where the author posts an image or a video he produced or found online and let the public comment on it. Much like CNN’s Political blog that also uses Wordpress.

There’s no much text involved other than the teaser that summarizes the media file and the comments. The only concern is the number of pages involved. Although the site is only 8 months old, the author posts new content on a daily basis.

The reason I would want to migrate it to MODx is because, I’m used to it and it serves me well. Plus, I just think that creating themes when I already have my XHTML code is simply stupid. And since I’ve never done it, I don’t feel like it either.

So what do you think I should do here?

TBH, I think it depends on how much styling and re-design you need to do. I find WP a nighmare to design in unless you like one of the available themes (though it’s probably easier if you’re used to it). The back-end of the default Kubrick theme seems to have been designed by monkeys with attention-deficit disorder. The CSS that controls it is scattered all over the place and the styling would have been next to impossible without FireBug.

That said, WP has an attractive, intuitive UI and many bells and whistles that would take some work to duplicate in MODx. It installs and updates through Fantastico on almost every server.

I’ve never done a blog in MODx. The only one I’ve created uses WP and, except for the design/styling, the whole process was a piece of cake and the computerphobic friend I designed it for needed almost no training and now creates perfectly formatted blog posts with uploaded pictures quite casually. If my friend had liked one of the available themes, I could have done it in less than an hour without breaking a sweat.

      YMMV . . . wink

I’m curious to hear your thoughts after the project is finished.

Very funny. Sorry for the ;ate reply.

Yeah, I don’t why not move on with MODx. I will be working on it over the next few weeks and test MODx limits.

        Thanks for the feedback
