Site looks fine in Firefox, but as usual IE is a mess!

Hi all,

I’m wondering if someone can take a look at a test page I have up at:

I foolishly developed it using Firefox. After uploading my test page, I looked at it in IE 8 and voila - all effed up. Not only is the formatting all trashed, but the navigation bar is a mess as well.

Although I’ve been trying for most of this day to find out what’s causing this, I’d bet that it’s a common IE idiosyncrasy. I’m posting this only because I’m unable to figure out what the heck the problem is.

I’m wondering if someone well versed in html and css can take a look at this test page and let me know where the heck I went astray and how I can make the IE version approximate the look of the Forefox version.

Don’t mess with what works for FF and friends. Add an IE conditional block to your template head after the link to your main .css file, and in that conditional block put a link to a .ie.css file. Then start editing that ie.css file to get IE to work right.

Add a float left to this line of CSS should help the menu.

.menu ul li a, .menu ul li a:visited

I use a css reset to reset the browsers’ default styles. Generally it tests out in Firefox, IE, Opera, and Google Chrome with little trouble and few browser specific css hacks.

Thanks to everyone for the help with this. It looks like starting my pages off with the reset.css file straightened out the problem. At least - for now - I don’t need a separate style file for IE!
