Problems with Friendly URLs

Having all kinds of problems with friendly URLs. On my staging site (on my laptop), can’t get the rewrite to work at all. Bummer, but it’s just the staging site.
On my live site (still in development), it seems to be doing the rewrite ok (when I click on navigation, it goes to the friendly URL - ie, /features), but it gives me a 404 unless i go to the ?id=3 version of the page.

Any thoughts?

Make sure that rewrite_module on your local dev server is enabled. I know that for Wampserver it’s not enabled by default, so take a look at your Apache module and make sure that you enable it. That should work.

rename the file ht.access to .htaccess on root folder

If you’re using XAMPP on the local install, mod_rewrite is disabled by default and FURLs won’t work. On Windows machines, check this file:

xampp/apache/conf/httpd.conf

For the Mac, it’s this file:

Applications/xampp/etc/httpd.cnf

Make sure that the following two lines are uncommented:



If you have put the MODx install in a subdirectory, you’ll need to edit the RewriteBase line in the .htaccess file to include the name of the subdirectory.

Should have mentioned this, but I already renamed the ht.access file .htaccess in both the root folder and manager folder, and included the extra code that makes it non-case-sensitive. I checked the httpd files, and the rewrite module is uncommented. Still not working. Any other solutions? Thanks for the help!

Maybe that has changed; I just downloaded it and installed it on my Mac and it works out-of-the-box.

That’s certainly how it should be. The Windows version may be like that now too.

The last time I upgraded XAMPP it caused some troubles here so I went back to the old version and am still on it.

I’m using MAMP on the Mac.

Is your modx site installed in a folder? If yes, make sure you have

RewriteBase /whatever_the_folder_name_is

in your .htaccess file
