Hi everyone, I just tried modx in byethost, during installation utf8-general didn’t work, so I tried the suggestion which is latin.
However after entering the manager page and trying to edit the site, it just won’t update.
I did tried chmod 777 on the assets, but still no luck. Also I did add the config.inc.php but it doesn’t seem to give any effect as it works even without adding it.
I also tried cleaning the cache and see if it updated, proving it is not a cache problem.
Any ideas how to fix this?

What encoding/collation are your db tables and fields?
If utf-8 make sure your language file is the utf-8 one.
It’s latin, but in the admin setting, it’s still in utf-8. I already changed the site name and wasn’t able to return to the same place when I click it. How do I get back there?
If you just started, just drop the database and delete everything!
Then start over and set your database encoding +collation to utf-8/utf-8_general_ci
Then you should be able to choose that.
The weird thing is that it won’t accept utf8_general_ci did I miss something or is it the problem of the server? Their SQL is 5.0.84 so i thought it should work.

You mean you can’t create a database in phpMyAdmin with encoding utf-8 and collation changed to utf8_general_ci?
//phpMyAdmin uses swedish latin1 as default collation.
I mean during installation, whenever I chose utf-8_general_ci modx would complain saying it’s not working that I should choose set names or italian instead.

Since your installation is new, mrhaw is suggesting that you drop the DB (in PhpMyAdmin) and recreate it with everything set to UTF-8 so that you won’t get that error on install.
Er...I don’t have the privilege to create new database in phpmyadmin. I can only create database in mysql database which doesn’t allow you to select the database type.
Did I get what you mean?
