i am quite new to modx and also i am not a hardcore coder. the learning curve of modx seems quite steep, as it invloves - depending on what you want to do - knowledge of all kinds of web technologies like jquery, php etc. Anyways, as i am not working on a commercial project, i don’t have any time pressure so this seems to be a good project to learn modx with.
In the long run i want to convert the this (almost abandoned) site (
http://zwei.org/ ) from joomla to modx. i must say that i really always hated the approach joomla has on content organization and as far as i understood modx i am really looking forward to the way that things could work in modx.
i want to build an ultra minimalist page for the site and cutting and pasting stuff i found brought me at least this far:

it still looks crappy but actually i like the idea that all the sites content will be displayed in one single page, so theoretically this is not TOO far away from where i want to get.
Basically the site is about films or other artistic works, the people that create these works and all sorts of information that might be interesting to somebody participating in that project, like funding deadlines, grants, festival submission deadlines etc.
With my little knowledge of modx, i created some placefiller content which is organized like this:
I am stuck now with some technical and one organizational question.
For example the the "people" and the "works" resources obviously have main a main content, which is the name of the piece and the name of the people listed on the site. i am wondering if, for future flexibility, i should split up the details of the individual resources into template variables, like this:
Does this make sense or should all the content go in the resources content area?
The other thing is, i put some tests <div>’s into the template (some in the footer part and some in the Wayfinder Active Row Template) and wanted to load resource content into the div, by jquery & ajax. this seemed to be more complicated then i thought, i can only find this article, whenever i google for that problem:, this is the only thing i can find

and this is somehow too far away for my skills to re-use for my purposes.
Can anyone point me to some better resource how to load any kind of resource content (main or template values) into divs via ajax? is it really necessary to write extra PHP snippets for this?
