    Hi

Have just started using modx (like it lots!)

    having problems installing FCKEditor

Followed the instructions in the package page
    http://modxcms.com/extras/package/143

extracted zip file into root of my modx site, and now have a folder fckeditor on the server.

tried an install with the upgrade existing install option, but fckeditor was not listed in the plugins to be upgraded, and so plugin was not installed.

    Not sure what to do

    any help appreciated.

Assuming you’ve installed MODx in the root of your site, take these steps:

First make sure there’s no ’install’ folder in the root of your site.

Then first unzip the file and upload the folders ’assets’ and ’install’ to the root of your site. If your ftp-program asks if the ’assets’ directory should be overwritten, choose ’yes’ or ’yes to all’.

After everything is uploaded, in your browser type the url to the install directory, like http://yoursite.com/install.

Now you should be guided through the installation process.

After the installation is successfully finished, you should delete the ’install’ directory (if not done automatically) and in the MODx Manager, in the configuration, you should be able to choose FCKEditor as rich text editor.

      Good luck!

        Thanks for the reply

afraid this has not worked, and am a bit confused about the installation process.

I unzipped fckeditor into a folder (on local copy of site). When you say
’upload the folders ’assets’ and ’install’ to the root of your site’

I first assumed that there would be an ’assets’ and ’install’ folder in the fckeditor folder, but in fact there is no install folder and only an assets folder in the _samples/html folder of the unzipped fckeditor.

So I re-uploaded the install folder from modx, which I still had a copy of locally.

tried the update install again, once with the fckeditor folder and contents in root of modx web directory, this didn’t work.

So I tried again, this time putting the contents of the fckfolder (i.e. subfolders and files) in the root of the modx web directory, uploading etc, but this didn’t work either.

Needless to say, I did backups before all this, but it hasn’t affected my site (it still works ok and all the templates, resources etc are still there and working), but it also means fckeditor is not installed.

There seems something wrong here, I’m new to modx, but an experienced web developer, and I would have expected there to be a plugin folder (i.e. like the default plugins for modx, tintmce3241 for example)

I even tried uploading the fckeditor folder (from the zip file) to the modx plugins folder, but that didn’t work either.

Not sure what to do now, would like to have use of fckeditor because of the wiki beginners guide http://wiki.modxcms.com/index.php/Beginner%27s_Guide_to_MODx#The_content__modifications
describing its usefulness when doing a preview.

        Any further advice welcome.

Did you download FCKEditor from my site, http://webenet.nl/resources.html ?

Please try this one, as the link in the MODx resources (still) isn’t working right.

If you open this zip file, you should see the assets and install folders.
