I just installed the modx sample site... everything appeared to install correctly. I can log in to the manager and change settings/create resources etc.
The problem is that on the front end of the site none of the links resolve to pages (i.e. if I click on the "view registration form" link on the home page it takes me to request-an-account.html which throws a 404 error. If I look at the "Request and Account" resource in the manager and hit preview it takes me to a page with the url index.php?id=5 - the page says "Sign Up for Full Site Privileges" but there is no form to sign up.
I have a feeling that these are two unrelated issues... I simply want to see how the signup process would work for web users. I’m assuming the first issue (the 404) is because of an issue with rewrite? But it’s turned on...
I am using MAMP Pro 1.8.3 and ModX 1.0.2
Have you renamed the ht.access file to .htaccess ??

The preview feature doesn’t use rewrites at all, so you’ll always get a previewed page with the index.php?id=xxx URL.
If you’re using MAMP, do you have MODx installed in htdocs, or in a subdirectory (such as htdocs/modx)?
So - I renamed the ht.access file and it fixed the friendly urls... I saw the ht.access file and read it as .htaccess....
But one thing that I’m not understanding is that it looks like any form elements on my page aren’t being rendered (or I assume they aren’t - see attached screenshot). I’m assuming that the search header up top should have a field next to it.
No response? I’m getting a bit frustrated... I tried logging in to the IRC channel last night and no one appeared to be answering questions... I had heard the modx community was pretty strong but I haven’t seen any evidence of that being the case.
So... here’s the details of my installed sample site:
In MAMP Pro I have added a new host (called modx.dev) that points to a folder in my sites folder (~/Sites/modx_sample). The install went fine... no errors reported... I removed the install folder and renamed ht.access to .htaccess - the only thing I changed was turning on the first yes box in friendly urls. All of the URLs work correctly after I changed the name of the ht.access file but no form elements render at all - I’ve tried safari and firefox (both on OSX Snow Leopard).
This is getting a bit ridiculous... I’m very close to going back to CakePHP...
