If you use [*TVName*], then it will use that TV from the page the Ditto snippet call is on. If you want the TV from the page Ditto is making a listing from you must use the Ditto placeholders [+TVName+]. This applies to all document variables as well as template variables.

When Ditto runs, it gathers an array of documents to make its list from. The tpl you specify is applied to each document in the array, one at a time, and the placeholders replaced with the values for the document Ditto is processing. For example, [+id+] is replaced with the ID of the document Ditto is processing. But [*id*] refers to the ID of the document the Ditto snippet call is on.

now how do I include that field in the front end form that right now is NewsPublisher? thats what I was tryingto do was figure out how to code that custom form... I do not -have - to have the front end I guess but I think it might be best as this is worked on by committee.

hrm. okay, so on the actual post page the TV’s should look like this:

[*foo*] and on the other pages calling this page and listing it then they will look like this [+foo+]

In your Ditto tpl chunk it should look like [+...+]. The placeholder tags only apply in the Ditto tpl chunk.

You can’t. Hence the removal of NewsPublisher from MODx 1.0.0 and later. As the Improvements and Updates section of http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/topic,38202.0.html says:

- Removed News Publisher snippet (did not support TVs)

If you have moved on from 0.9.6.3, you’ll find the Quick Manager module is almost as easy to use as a News Publisher form for entry, with access to all the fields and template variables. It makes tweaking normal page content (correcting typos etc.) so much easier, as well.

FWIW, there has been some work done on NewsEditor here

and the latest branch appears to incorporate TVs. At least I was able to add a new TV field to a form ("author") and have it process correctly. What is not immediately apparent to me is if an image can be uploaded...

I’m torn right now, will look at the NewsEditor thing but it might not be worth it to make a front end form post. I feel two ways about it. I am leaning towards tossing the whole front end post page in lieu of a special user group to edit in the manager. Mostly because I’m tired of dealing with it and don’t think it is worth it to try to reinvent the wheel.

My tagging issue still isn’t resolved, if I can resolve it then I’ll be in a much better mood, going to go reinstall TV TagCloud.
