Emergency!: Modx just broke on me again, Im gonna get fired, PLEASE HELP ME!

Please somebody please help me on this.

1) I just spent the last 48 hours putting a website for my employer on to MODX AGAIN.
It was already using Modx, but then the below problem happened, so I got rid
of everything of our website that was using MODX off the host server and started over
with a fresh install of MODX 1.0 and then added our websites pages, templates, etc

REPETITIOUS PROBLEM #1: Just now I went to login for the modx manager, I login and instead of MODX
sending me to its manager interface, it takes me to the first page of OUR website instead with no manager.

REPETITIOUS PROBLEM #2: Since the above happened, just like before... NOW THE LINKS ON MY WEBSITE DONT WORK.

When you click on the links Instead of them taking you to the appropriate page within the site
they all take you to a blank white page that says "No input file specified."


I already re-checked my webcode and nothing got changed, the links in my HTML still show [~ * ~] with the appropriate number of the page link to go to within those brackets.

My boss is going to flip after I have to tell him that Modx just broke again, and I dont want to get fired for choosing MODX in the first place.

CAN SOMEONE HERE PLEASE HELP ME SOLVE THIS AND THUS MAYBE EVEN SAVE MY JOB

You need to tell us about the server environment, and MODx version. Possibly the snippets and plugins you use other than default ones.

actually i don’t understand that part 100%

...an existing MODx site was in the webroot on the server which wasn’t working properly, you then deleted everything including the database and made a fresh install and added the content, right?

you got the site working locally on your computer?

thank you for responding to my distress signal....

our server environment:
websites are not on local pc, I edit and build sites
then upload them to a remote server at our webhosts.
we use a commercial hosting company like many small
companies do to have our websites hosted.
The server our sites are hosted on is Linux.

My Modx version Im using right now is 1.0.0 evolution
I downloaded it friday from Modx site.

The previous Modx I was using was an older version of EVO
I downloaded from modx site back in April 2009.

Yes, I had originally installed MODX back in April when
I started building this particular website for my employer.

I never completed it because we had other priority web
projects that came up the last few months.

So now, my employer asked me last week to take the time
& continue building this website on Modx again.

When I went back to the website, the problems I
mentioned above happened. So I couldnt figure out
the issue. So I deleted it all from our hosted server
using FTP...

then I went to modxcms.com & d-loaded 1.0.0 EVOLUTION
and spent this entire weekend getting the site all back
up on the MODX. Everything was working fine last night
but I when I accessed everything this morning.

The problems I mentioned above happened again.

Oh yeah one more thing you asked.... I am not using any snippets or plugins YET....
that didnt come with the install BY DEFAULT.

BOB RAY.... the web server we pay for through commercial hosting
is a Linux box. They gave us the choice when we signed on with them a year ago and since
I work primarily on a Linux box at home & for work, we chose Linux based server.

sending you to the first page probably indicades that the page you were trying to access couldn’t be found, since it’s MODx’s default error 404 page
did you activate friendly urls in the MODx manager and did you rename ht.access to .htaccess? could have something to do with your .htaccess - but as i said...just guessing

Yes I renamed my ht.access file to .htaccess and Yes I did turn on friendly urls in the manager
early on in the weekend.

Its odd to me that when the modx manager login comes up, it does so fine
when I type in www.mydomain.com/mdx/manager.index.php

but after I fill in my login info & press the login button it used to go to the the modx manager interface
but now it bypasses the manger interface and just goes to the home page of the website.

Though I just thought, there are 2 links at the top of my home page that say edit source & create source
but nothing else.

if your installation is in a subdirectory...did you reference it in your .htaccess? ->


login with www.mydomain.com/mysubdirectoy/manager.index.php will result on my sites in an 404 errror as well...so just try logging in with www.mydomain.com/mdx/manager

could you logg in and out while you were working on your site...or were you constantly logged in and the first time you tried to resulted in those errors?
